Renewing rhodium plating - yay or nay?

Jemma, on January 30, 2014 at 11:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I have a white gold engagement ring and my wedding ring is the same. Obviously I have now been wearing the engagement ring for some time and it is not as shiny as it once was. It is not obvious on its own, but will be when I have the brand new wedding ring next to it.

They recommend you get the rhodium plating on white gold renewed once a year, and I do feel I ought to do it before the wedding to keep the ring shiny and for the wear levels to match the wedding ring.

But I'm not sure I can bring myself to part with my e-ring long enough for it to be done, and I'm so worried they'd lose it or something.

Has anyone done it or decided not to do it? Thoughts?

I have to get my plated once a year too, I'll be doing it right before the wedding so it looks shiny and new again! It'll suck having to leave it with them but it'll be worth it for it to look brand new again.

I've had mine worked on twice and they renew it each time. It's worth it to me. My wedding band looks so different than my ring when it's faded and I hate it

I don't think you need to worry-- this is a very common procedure, most jewelers probably have it down pat.

I had it renewed once so far and it does suck to be without it but I'm planning on doing it once more shortly before the wedding. There will be pics of it, people looking at it, etc. I want it to look it's best Smiley smile

I am definitely doing it right before the wedding. I will be sad to have it gone, but it will be worth it!

I've already have had mine done and I've almost had it a year. I will be getting it done again a month before the wedding. I don't like being without it but they are pretty quick.

Im getting mine replated before the wedding so it looks as shiny as my band. I also got the plan so they would replate them each year

I will be doing it before the wedding if not sooner as well. Mine is starting to yellow on the underside of ring on outside surface. Love white gold but it is a pain for maintence.

I'm getting mine done just before the wedding and also having the band soldered to the e-ring

I do it once a year, I really recommend it. I would do it. It's only like 7 to 10 days. It's not that bad.

I'm currently dearly departed from my bridal set and it sucks! But I went into the jeweler to have the band sized down and upon the Rep. seeing the e-ring, she recommended that it would be better to have them both "plated" at the same time, so it doesn't look OFF. Allegedly it takes two weeks and TRUST me I've been counting down - Saturday is the two week mark and I'll be calling first thing!

My hand feels completely NAKED! I had even considered going to Charming Charlie's and getting a CZ ring just to have something on my finger, but it ain't the same...ugh!

It took my jeweler like, 2 days to do this. i got a cheap-o band from claire's just so i didn't feel totally naked.

it looks so much better when it comes back. totally worth it.
