Rehearsal dinner - tacky?

Shannon, on February 10, 2017 at 10:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 81

So, we're getting (dangerously) close to going over budget and I'm trying to think of how to make the RD be inexpensive.

Would an RD at a pizza place be tacky or come off cheap?

I think it might be nice to have a low key night before the big day anyway, and our group is definitely a chill bunch (14 including me, FH and SO's)

A couple of pies, pitchers of beer/bottles of wine?

Yay or nay?

Sounds good to me! I think something more relaxed like that before the wedding would be good.

I definitely wouldn't side eye a RD at a pizza place. I say yay.

Not tacky in the least. We are having a backyard barbecue for our rehearsal dinner. I can't justify spending a bunch of money at a rehearsal dinner to then turn around the next day and pay thousands for dinner again. One $4000 dinner is enough for me..lol

I think it's a great idea! I agree with the other comments more relax before the big day.

The only thing I can think of is do you really want to have pizza and beer the day before your wedding... for me, I always wake up swollen and puffy after a night of heavy carbs and beer...

but other than that I think it's awesome!

I sure hope not because that's exactly what we are doing!

Though, our "pizza place" is actually a nice (but still casual) Italian restaurant. They offer a private room as long as I spend $300 or more on food and drink. For $20-25 people my estimate is that it will be $500-600. Includes open bar, salad, and pizza. I am considering adding a pasta dish too, for an additional charge. We can bring in our own desserts - which I will buy and not make myself!

Great idea! We're doing our RD at a bar and grill. Burgers, fries, other appetizers like that. And of course drinks!

Not only is it not tacky, I think it's really preferable to a big fancy dinner. One of my favorites (I attended because it was a destination wedding and they had me for the whole weekend....) was a pizza/appetizer party at a pool hall. It was great!

We're doing this too! We're going to get a few pizzas, have a few gluten free and vegetarian options for FSIL, and cover everyone's wine and beer. Low stress, and who doesn't love pizza and wine?

Nobody needs a mini-reception, unless they're uber rich and have money to throw around. The rest of us have mortgages and bills to pay. The wedding -- usually a five figure affair that lasts one day -- is enough for any normal couple to absorb. Weddings are out of hand, so let's at least strive to keep the pre-wedding events in budget.

Order your pies and pitchers. There's nothing tacky about it.

That is what we are doing; pizza, wings, salad, beer and soda! I don't think its tacky or comes off as being cheap!

Yay! I love pizza and I kind of wish we were doing pizza/wings for our RD. But FMIL gets what FMIL wants/pays for.
