Rehearsal Dinner Dress Code?

Septbride17, on August 25, 2017 at 2:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I thought it was common knowledge that the rehearsal dinner is semi-formal dress wear?

Is this supposed to be a casual event or???

I'm confused.

Maybe I am just used to my family dressing up for important family events so I figured this was a given, but are any of you having a casual or semi-formal rehearsal?

What makes a rehearsal/dinner semi-formal vs casual?

Just curious what other people do and what the "norm" is.

Mine is in a little over a week and it will be pretty casual. I'm wearing a maxi dress and sandals. My friend who recently got married had a super casual rehearsal too. It depends where you have your dinner. We are doing pizza.

Ours was casual. Some people dressed up a little (I wore a sundress and sandals) but others were in shorts/tshirts.

Rehearsal dinners can be as casual as just having pizza or as formal as a sit-down dinner. I personally want to have a very relaxed, casual BBQ for my rehearsal dinner to contrast with the very formal reception the next day.

Ours was also casual-ish. i wore a maxi dress and sandals, and H wore a shirt with a collar but he generally does that anyway (he has two looks--hobo and professional, no middle ground). we had a catered buffet in the party room at H's dad's condo, so it wasn't a very fancy location. we wanted it to be relaxed.

Most people wear a 'nicer' casual outfit. I've always worn a sundress and sandals/flats, and plan to do the same for mine. I've seen most guys wear khakis, sometimes jeans, and a polo or button up.

I'm not really concerned with how people dress to the rehearsal, but this is what I've seen at the ones I've been to.

FWIW, I'll bet money that FFIL will show up in cargo shorts and a tshirt.

I think it depends on what the rehearsal dinner is. For my friend's wedding, we had a quick rehearsal and then had to finish setting up the venue. She just ordered in pizza and fast food. We wore jeans.

If it was a sit down meal, I would expect dress code depends on restaurant.

Why would that be common knowledge? Ours was at a fancy restaurant, so that was what dictated what people wore.

Ours was at a nice seafood restaurant. I wore a white Lilly dress and heels, and my bridesmaids all wore sundresses or nice maxis. The guys all wore slacks and button downs.

We're doing a rehearsal brunch (for financial reasons), so it will be casual. I'm with you... I hear dinner and I assume fancy.

Ours is pretty casual. We're just having a catered BBQ taco meal at my parents house. It will be more of like a catered family cookout

Casual and funky. We're asking everyone to wear black jeans or skirt, white shirt and we will provide top hats and goofy glasses in black and white and silver glitter (one at each place setting) at a nice, but casual restaurant in town. We'll take pictures and just enjoy. Chocolate and Vanilla Cupcakes for dessert and a thank you magnet with our photo from vista print.

I base what I wear for RDs on where it is. If it's at someone's house, I'm wearing a sundress or jeans. A restaurant, then probably a nice dress or slacks. I don't automatically think cocktail dress though

No wedding event gets a dress code unless you're actually doing black tie with all the requirements that entails.

Last rehearsal dinner I was invited to, my FH was an usher. He showed up in a hoodie and crocs. It was extremely casual...I think you set the tone for the event. Our dinner will likely be casual, but no crocs.

We have specifically said casual so people know how to pack and don't feel like they need to dress up two nights in a row. Of course they can if they want, I am Smiley smile

FW's mom (aka FH's Cousin) asked me what the dress code was and I was just a little thrown off by it. Our rehearsal is at 4pm and dinner is at 7pm at a nice restaurant. I just didn't know what to say, so I said "semi-formal" which she responded to as "oh nice, fancy!" and I just didn't think it was really an off the wall fancy thing, I just thought it was common to dress up for rehearsal dinner.

It depends where it's held. If it's an upscale venue, yes a little more formal. If it's mom and dad's dining room for casual buffet, not so much.

Mine will be casual. Honestly it's going to be a low key, casual dinner so everyone can rest and be ready for the big day. I don't want a ton of pressure on the rehearsal dinner.

It is very different for everyone. Ours is cocktail attire. I have heard of others being much more casual.
