Rehearsal Dinner decor and menu options

TeamAndre, on February 7, 2015 at 9:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

My FH and I have opted to have our rehearsal dinner in the fellowship hall at my church (where the wedding will be held). We were really torn between having it there vs at a restaurant or a more intimate venue. We decided on the church because it is convenient (we have a lot of put of town guests) and we wanted something informal (we're having a very formal wedding). We are trying to come up with menu ideas that are both creative and yummy. We're expecting about 50 ppl. I was also reading about having the theme/color scheme for the rehearsal dinner different from the wedding theme. Our wedding is black and crystal, so I was trying to come up with something brighter for the dinner. Hubby's favorite color is purple, so I was hoping to incorporate it somehow. I would love to hear ideas

I wouldn't invest too much in decor for the rehearsal dinner. The church will provide table cloths. I would go to Dollar Tree and purchase everything from there.

Lucky you, we wanted to have our rehearsal dinner in the fellowship hall of our chapel too but they don't allow RDs or Receptions on campus because of the liability with alcohol being involved. Plan B was to go to our favorite Italian restaurant and rent out the back room, but MIL insisted on using the reception hotel restaurant. It was too stuffy and the food wasn't really that good but can't complain too much since she paid for everything. Anyway, here are some ideas for you.

Simple diy purple decor if you really want to add something, but it's not necessary. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/330029478915277507/

For dinner I would stay away from what you're doing for your wedding dinner. Maybe pick a certain ethnic food you guys like best such as Italian, Mexican, or Japanese and go from there. Here is my hors'deovours pinterest board for you to maybe get some ideas from for your RD. https://www.pinterest.com/tassiakay/food-drinks/ Good luck!

Our rehearsal dinner will be at the loft apartment a the venue. I am investing in some couture cupcakes for my rehearsal dinner in addition to catered BBQ. We will have ZERO decoration. There will be alcohol and a big screen TV!

Our rehearsal dinner is at a local Mom and Pop pizza restaurant near our house. They have a private room and we are having a pizza, salad, and pasta buffet. I am getting him a grooms cake shaped like an X Box for our dessert. Simple and informal. Our big wedding is formal and expensive enough.

These are all great ideas. Thank you. My FH family is from Haiti, so I love the idea of incorporating ethnic food. They are not from the area that the wedding is being held, so it may be difficult to pull off (because I'm not Haitian and no one in my family knows how to make Haitian food in all of its deliciousness). I would have to talk to him and his mother to see if this is something that could be done-though I would admittedly feel bad asking her to cook so much food. I had not thought of catered BBQ, but that is a great idea. We were also considering pasta, but it was difficult trying to come up with various options (aside from lasagna and some kind of Alfredo based dish) for 50 people. I'm definitely going to check out the links. Thanks again!

I would do minimal decorations. Nice or cloth tablecloths with maybe some fresh purple flowers as a simple centerpiece or some other purple accent as a centerpiece. I would definitely have the food catered in from a local restaurant - the last thing you need to be stressing over that day is food!!
