Rehearsal dinner cost

Erin, on November 10, 2017 at 7:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

How much does a rehearsal dinner typically cost per person including alcohol and any rental fees or server charges if applicable? We're not looking for super fancy but feel like it's still too pricey and wondering if that's normal.

No one can answer this for you.

You need to contact either your venue - if they offer this service - or local restaurants/catering halls.

Rehearsals do not need to be big and fancy dinners. Some people have everyone over for a small catered dinner to their home. Others take everyone out for a meal at a restaurant. We plan to order catering from a restaurant and have it in a room at the hotel everyone is staying at

This is such a broad question... it's like how much does a watch cost?

Some people grab some beer and wine and have pizza at their house... some people go more elaborate at restaurants, it's all really up to you how much or little you want to spend.

That is an impossible question. You can do pizza and salad and beer or a sit down dinner that rivals the wedding itself.

Personally, I'd go with something casual, like the former, with ONLY the people who are coming to the wedding and their SO's. Include the officiant, if they are running it and your DOC if you have one. And parents/stepparents if they're involved.

Many people seem to think that OOT guests should be invited. I'm not one of those people. Keep it short, simple, thank your BP and call it a day.

I'm doing a lunch because my venue is booked in the evening and we can only do a morning rehearsal. Lunch at a byob is costing $16 a head and I will be bringing in sangria and beer.

Like the wedding it depends on the number of guests. We are having around 35 people and hope to stay around $1500. Based on that budget we will look around.

I know the answer can vary but I guess I should be more specific. Looking for general range of cost per person if you reserved a room at a decently good restaurant (because that's what his parents want but they don't live here so we have to do the grunt work).

There is no "typical". It is completely dependent on type of food and guest list. I plan on having a rehearsal luncheon, since the rehearsal will be in the late morning.

We were surprised at the costs, but really shouldn't have been. My FH wanted a very casual affair (like pizza) but we didn't have a good place to host that (my mom is already having people over two other nights around the wedding, she wasn't willing to trash her house again the day before the wedding-it would stress her out and she's the only one in town). Hotel rooms weren't big enough for 30 guests, hotel ballrooms wouldn't let you bring in your own food and beer, it's too cold to plan anything outside (including outdoor patios of restaurants), and casual restaurants didn't have a private room big enough for 35 people, or one that they would rent on a Friday night in their busy time. So we are going with a moderate restaurant that serves updated classy southern fusion food and reserves an entire upstairs. The cost per person is just a little less than wedding food (I think around 35 pp) but then FILs want open bar. FMIL even insists on flowers to decorate (but we will do these ourselves). Anyways probably going to be around 4,000 all said and done with apps meal dessert drinks and flowers. But you realize that if you have more than 20 people, most places don't accommodate that well! FMIL seems happy to plan an event since she isn't super involved in the wedding. FH is ticked it's now this big to do.

I live in Ohio as well (Canton area). We had mission BBQ catered and my in-laws hosted it at their house. It was $13 per person I believe and the food is delicious!!

Unfortunately we don't have a house big enough to host and no family lives in town.

Can your venue accommodate RDs? Sometimes that's the best option. We're having ours in the basement of the church and FMIL is saying it'll only be about $300 for 40-ish people (probably less, including kids). So that's about $8 a head (very reasonable in my area) since the venue isn't charging us

My in-laws hosted a picnic, in their back yard. If they had hosted a formal dinner at our venue, it would no doubt have cost many times what they paid.

So where our rehearsal dinner is taking place is $250 to rent the room, $50 per person, plus alcohol.

I would think it would be around $35-50 per person including alcohol.

We rented a room at a brewery and brought in our own food. We only had about 15 people at our rehearsal.

I've been to rehearsal dinners at people's houses where ILs cooked and restaurants. I think we will end up hosting the BP and OOT guests simply because our wedding is a holiday weekend, so we want it to really be a wedding weekend.

I've seen quotes around 16-30 a plate at most "fancier" restaurants. I do live in FL but we are planning on having about 35 people in a restaurant somewhere and trying to keep it under $1500. We will not be providing alcohol at our rehearsal dinner, the bar at the restaurant will be cash bar. With soda, water, tea, lemonade included in the meal.

No cash bars, even for a RD. You're asking your BP to spend even more time, when rehearsals are rarely, if ever necessary. Provide wine and beer.
