Hi ladies! So my thing is this. I wear a regular size 10 but the wedding dress that fit me perfectly was a size 12. Just wondering if regular sizes are different from wedding dress sizes.

It all depends, like the other ladies said, they are all over the place but there is a common thread in them running small across the board. That said, I only went to Alfred Angelo and Davids Bridal and I was my normal size 8 and they fit perfectly. I actually asked for a 10 bc I assumed they would be smaller. and then the lady was like why are you in a 10, it doesnt fit and I told her I thought they ran small and she was like not here!

I totally feel the confusion!!! I'm a 34D, street size 2-4, andinorder to get a dress I really like, but not love,

I have to order a size 14 dress to cover the ladies and then have to get the waist taken in a significant amount to fit me properly, thank god its a ballgown and I don't have to worry about my hips or lack of butt lol!! Haven't commited to the dress yet, bc Im worried altering too much will ruin the integrity of the gown :-(

I'm really small and petite. My dress is actually a size smaller, which concerns me. I looked on some of the used dress sites and it seems some of the Alfred Angelo with bodice style/corset are smaller then street size. Or at least I hope, if not I'm screwed. Smiley sad

Everything I read before I ordered says usually a size or 2 bigger. I don't have much time for alterations so it better fit, was just expecting a bustle and hem. But she measured me like 3 times and it fell into the size she ordered, I kept asking her if she was sure.

DB tried to put me in a six. I went online and saw a 4 which they ordered because the 2 was sold out. 4 fits much better but 2 wouldn't have need any alterations. If it wasn't for that my dress would've been true to size.

Thanks Future Mrs DooPwee, that makes me feel better. I'm kinda freaked out since I ordered late and won't come in till July 15th for my Aug 3 wedding *doh*. I don't usually wear dresses so it could be true to size, it is my jean size too. Plus she said with the corset top I should be fine.

I am a size 8 dress size and I had to get a 14 they were even talking about a size 16 just so we can have extra room to remove the zipper and add in a corset back but with the size 14 it feels horrible to see those numbers. It is an exclusive designer dress for the place I got it, they don't even have it anywhere online. This is me in the size 14 *dies*

That looks nowhere near a 14. Just goes to show don't worry about bridal dress sizes, they're are out of control. LOL

When I heard the size I about died. I was about to cry because for my whole life I've dealt with my weight and that size just makes me feel terrible.

Yeah - my wedding gown was way off size wise. I wear a size 12 jeans normally, and had to buy a 16 for my gown.

It was disappointing to say the least. lol

I'm normally a 26/28 and my Alfred Angelo dress is a 24. I was expecting to have to order something much larger...

I tried on dresses at DB, and there they were going to order a 22 or 24.

It may depend all on designer. My dress was true to size.

Oh yeah -- bridal-shop stuff has its own sizing. I usually wear an 8 or 10, but my wedding dress was a 14, and the most recent BM dress I've bought was a 12.

I am usually size 4 in regular dresses but In my wedding size I'm 0-2.. It's because I like A lines and my waist and boobs are small, but my hips are quite a bit larger. So .. It depends on the dress and your body I believe! =)

The lady at the bridal shop told me to order a size 8 thought I wanted a size 6 in a casablanca dress. I'm 33.5 in bust; waist is 27 and hips are 38.5. I feel like a size 8 is going to be too big when I believe I can fit into a size four. I'm also worried that when I have to get alterations done, which i will because of my bust size, they'll charge me a lot more because of the amount of clothes they'll have to cut. Any information will help so I can call them before they order my dress.

Wedding dress sizing is completely different from regular clothes sizing, and can vary greatly based on the designer! Typically brides have to order a larger number size than they wear in regular clothes. Always listen to the bridal consultant when they make their suggestion on the size to order based on your measurements!! They will take your largest measurement and order to that size!

I went today to try on a few wedding dresses. I'm a 10-12 in normal clothes. I had to try on dresses that where 16w-18w. I was starting to cry. And I just left the store in pure disgust.

Wow, I'm just shocked at how much the sizes run the gamut! I haven't gone to try any dresses on yet and I'm terrified to do so. I'm almost 55 and am currently (ugh) in jeans that are 11-12. The last thing I want to do is look like a beached whale!

Has anyone ordered a dress online with any success? I ask, because I've found a few that I absolutely love!

I ordered a dress from DB sample sale. I am a 4/6 in street clothes and ordered a 10 thinking i would need to get it altered, but it fits very nicely. i tried on 2 at the store that fit as well. One was an 8 and the other a 6....

Yes! Typically in formal dresses, I've noticed most people seem to be two sizes "larger" than in "street sizes." My typical street size is a 4 or a 6, but my wedding dress is nearly a perfect fit and is an 8. It didn't phase me because I knew to expect it, but I might've been upset had it been my first time.
