Registry - Sets or individuals?

Chip, on August 18, 2017 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

FH and I registered at BBB yesterday (Holy crap - I've never been there before, overwhelming!)

So now I'm going through and adjusting some things (other prints available online, accidental scans, additions, ECT)

But My question is - did you register for whole sets or individual pieces? ie dinnerware, bakeware, cookware.. VS single pots/pans, plates/bowls that go together?

Ideally, I'd love to have a complete set - but logically they're expensive! so what did you do?

I am planning on doing individual pieces so that people can purchase as many or as few as they'd like. You can always complete the set with the completion discount!

We did complete sets of place settings (salad plate/plate/bowl) and flatware. (ETA: These came in sets of 4, and we requested 3, so 12 place settings total)

I just picked out which specific pans I wanted though. Same with knives.

We did a little of both. The place settings we registered for are a little pricey, so we registered for 4 1-person settings and 2 4-person settings (12 place settings total, same as @AK)

So far at showers we have received 2 4-person settings and 2 1-person settings, and if we don't get the remaining sets we plan on buying them after the wedding.

If it's something that you're willing to spend money on to complete the set, list them separately. If not, list it together and hope a group goes in on it or something. I've just seen a lot of registries where they requested 12 $125 place settings and only 1 person bought one. What do you do with one place setting?

I registered for 10 sets of dishes. Each set had service for one (i.e. one plate, one salad plate, one bowl, one mug). It was more convenient for my guests as they could buy whatever fit their budgets (I have to admit I registered for some expensive dishes!) but it was a PITA for me to unwrap everything and dispose of all the boxes after my shower! Even knowing this now I would not do it another way....since I wanted to be conscious of my guests budgets. I did receive all 10 sets.

    ETA clarity

I am incredibly anal about having matching sets of things. I registered for my pots and pans as a set, but made sure they sold that same brand in the same finish individually if we need to add to the collection as life goes by.

My dishes didn't come as a set so I had to register for each piece individually, but obviously they are all matching.

We registered for stemware as a set too but didn't receive those.
