Registry Reviews: Kohl's, Target, Amazon, BBB

Laura, on July 29, 2013 at 6:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 26

Hi all. We have not yet decided where to register. We want to keep everything fairly inexpensive since neither of our families have much money and all of them have to travel for the wedding. I'm wondering what experiences any of you have had with Kohl's, Target, Amazon, and Bed Bath and Beyond or have any similar stores to suggest. Thanks!

I'd say BBB. Their prices are reasonable and they have coupons in magazines, online and coupons that come in the mail.

We're registered at Target and Amazon. Both have been great, the one issue we've had with Amazon is that they don't put anything in the packaging (if people are mailing you things) to indicate who it's from. we don't know who a couple of our gifts are from. one of the great things about Amazon though is that there's a universal registry option, so you can add things from any website to your Amazon registry. we liked plates from BBB but didn't want to register there as that is the only thing we wanted from them, so we added it to the Amazon registry and people can click on it to go to the site and order.

I'm registered at Kohl's - the only issue we've had so far is when they have huge home goods sales a few of the items in my registry will go out of stock online (but they reappear once they are back in stock/the sale is over).

Kohl's gives our guests 15% off any registry purchases and lots of our family/friends get Kohl's cash and coupons, too.

We're registered at Kohls and Pottery Barn. Kohls is great because like BB&B, they have constant coupons and sales going on. There's incentives for the couple as well. You get something like 15% back on all purchases in the form of Kohls cash (I think - need to check the website again), and an extra 15% off on anything left on your registry after the wedding.

My only complaint is that items are CONSTANTLY discontinuing. I have to get on there at least once a week to clean it up and re-add stuff.

We are registered at Amazon and Target. Both have been pretty good so far but Target does discontinue stuff from time to time. We didn't have any issues resulting from that but I've heard from others that it's come up. As far as returns, We've been able to return things without an issue they just make you print a sheet in store EVERY time so it takes longer than it should to make a return and I believe you get store credit back rather than cash. For us that's fine it just goes towards anything left on registry (believe you get 10% off) or normal groceries and stuff.

Amazon was bad about putting who things were from on a few items but they do give you a thank you list online so that solves most of it. We have one mystery item that wasn't on our registry and didn't say who it was from but we contacted customer service (via chat online- no awful hold music yay!) and they were able to tell us who it was from and were super helpful. You really can't beat the selection and convenience.

Thanks all. We are leaning towards Target, Kohl's and Amazon and are going to choose between two of those.

Also, I got my 5th star!

We registered at BB&B and had a wonderful experience! then i decided to register at kohls (online) and came to the conclusion that they are a bit more expensive, which i was surprised about.. but i definitely would recommend BB&B!!

When I got married I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Target. We got pretty much all of our gifts from Bed Bath and Beyond which was surprising. They have an amazing return policy though and when something wasn't delivered they quickly shipped another one out for us without asking any questions.

Disagreeing with kahlcara. If you don't know who your gift is from, the sender must've done something wrong. I just got my first gift from our Amazon registry and it was perfectly clear who sent it. Regardless, there is a handy-dandy "thank you card list" link that then shows a list of gifts by sender and has the sender's address so you can send your thank you cards.

I have otherwise heard a lot of negative stuff about Target's registry. A lot of brides on here have had issues with the registry itself (disappears, crazy stuff!) or stock changes a lot so it's frustrating keeping up on it. Also their return policy is not very good, like if you get duplicate items or whatever.

BBB is cheaper than Kohl's? I'm surprised by that too. So maybe we will do Target, BBB and Amazon.

ETA: I meant BBB not Kohl's.

We're registered at BB&B and Macy's. They were both really easy and BB&B will definitely give you a wide range of prices.

I hate Target registries as a guest, and I've heard lots of negative stuff from brides about them too. Whenever I try to go to Target to buy something off a registry, there's always some issue and I can only find like, 2 things actually in the store.

BBB regularly has $5 off of $15 purchase and 20% off a single item coupons. And the majority of BBB stores accept expired coupons and if your item is $14.99, they will still accept the $5 off coupon (don't make you meet or exceed $15).

My sister just got married. I bought her two oven mitts ($14.99 each) and set of butcher knives ($29.99) and gave them three coupons--20% off towards the knives and $5 off each of the oven mitts. Saved $16.

I like BBB better than Kohl's because at Kohl's you can get a good deal, but you have to wait for a good sale.

We did BBB and Amazon and so far it is going really well, between the two we can get a good mix of thing we actually want at a lot of different prices. Amazon's registry is sooo easy to fill since you can read helpful reviews and have a large inventory. BBB will offer the alternative to those who want to shop in store/use coupons.

We are registered at BBB, Target and Macy's. BBB and Macy's have been great! Easy to register, update, find things and sales are good. Target has been a bit painful with updating.

Ive registered at Macys before, it was a very cool experience. Me and FH registered at Dillards, and we plan to register at walmart and BBB. I tried to register before at Target and they wouldnt let me because there was another couple with our first names and Ex-Fh's last name, and the same wedding date.

I don't know, yet, where we will be registering, but I'm leaning toward both Macy's and a less-expensive place. That way, we can register for the stuff we really want to upgrade into crystal, fine china, and DECENT, non-Ikea bedding ( x-P ), but we also will have a list for those who can't afford--or get to--a Macy's.

Too bad KMart isn't still around, actually. Back when they had the Martha Stewart line, my mom was able to get some SERIOUSLY high-quality, Egyptian cotton linens there that are still in perfect condition. I'd have loved some of those....

I'm glad you posted this. We're trying to decide where to register. We were going to do a local place and Kohl's but now I'm not sure. Maybe BBB instead of Kohl's..
