Registry Question - When did things start getting purchased?

Kylene, on August 5, 2014 at 5:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

So I was on my registry today adding an item that I realized this morning we desperately need (an ironing board, strange registry item but we so need it!) ... and obviously looked through to see if anything had been purchased (come on now, we all at least WANT to look).

My shower is a week from Saturday, I think about 15-20 people will be going ... and so far, nothing has been purchased. I don't really mind -- I could get zilch in the way of gifts and be totally fine - I felt awkward making a registry anyway! -- just interesting that no purchases have been made yet.

Just wondering when you started seeing activity on your registries? How soon before your shower? How soon before your wedding?

And as an added question, if people go purchase in store, does it show up on your registry? Or will I have to go in and update my registry with items I received at the shower?

We did our registry early and so far 2 items have been purchased. I had to stop editing it because I want to be surprised. We still have 8 months to go! I have a feeling a select few people are shopping sales lol.

The day of and the day before the shower was when most of our stuff got purchased. The closer your shower gets, the more people will use it.

ETA: If they buy it in the store, they have to go through the store's registry system for it to show up online (normally the store reps can print out a copy of the registry for the person shopping. When the cashier scans the paper at checkout, it gets processed as part of your items).

My shower is on the 23rd and so far only 1 thing has been purchased from the registry, but it was purchased right when invites when out (I suspect because the item was over 60% off). For our in-store registry, it's linked online and in store, so as long as they buy it and indicate it's for us it will get updated.

Items from my registry didn't start getting purchased until the week of the bridal shower and the registry was given to my guest more than 1 month in advance. I am still receiving gifts in the mail from my bridal shower (bridal shower was July 26th - 3 weeks before the wedding). Registry was only created for the bridal shower since we want flat gifts (aka cash for the wedding). When they go to the store, if they inform the sales person they're getting the item off of a registry the sales person would update the registry for them.

I don't have a car, so I advised guest to ship the items directly to my apartment. We won't start using the items until after the wedding though.

And I put an iron board on my registry, but no one bought it. lol

I used myregistry.com. When ppl received the reminder about the shower (about 2 weeks before the bridal shower) they were reminded to update the registry to avoid duplicate gifts. So far I didn't receive any item twice nor did I receive an item and it wasn't marked as purchased on the registry.

My shower is on the same day as yours and I'm expecting about the same number of people. I logged on to my registries earlier this week to check someting and noticed a couple things were completed however I expect most of ny guests won't go shopping til later next week. I wouldn't worry that nobody has bought anything off your registry yet, most people usually wait til the last minute to buy.

Thank you! I figured it would probably be right before. And good to know i may not have to update on own. Thanks!

We started seeing things a week or two before the shower, but it really picked up the closer to the shower and then the closer to the wedding.

I myself am a last-minute shopper - I go shopping on the way to the shower or wedding. :-)

I had some people but stuff and not use my registry number, so after my shower I had to go delete the items from my registry. And it usually takes up to 48 hours from when they purchase to update online Smiley winking Most of my items got purchased the day or two before.

I was freaking out when 2 weeks before my shower only 3 things were bought. but i kid you not as soon as the weekend before my shower rolled around literally over night 90% of the things on my registry were purchased. People wait until the last minute. you should be fine

As a guest to a shower, I usually purchase the day before or day-of the shower.

Only a few people bought anything off the registry to the shower. It was between the shower and the wedding that most things were purchased. Also, everything that was bought they sent directly to our house versus bringing it to the wedding (this could depend on your guests).

I guess that's where I differ on this! I'm always a SUPER early shopper. If I have something to buy a gift for, it's purchased at least two weeks before. But I'm weird like that!! Totally makes sense that most people aren't that OCD and purchase much closer to the event.

Geez you people are SO greedy!

TOTALLY KIDDING! My shower invites went out yesterday and I can't wait to start checking my registry religiously. I'm one of those people who can't not look. FH may have to change the password so there's at least a few surprises. I'm glad to see a timeline of when to expect people to buy stuff! I know I never buy things from registries till the last minute. My mom mentioned that she doesn't like to tell the store she's buying from a registry so that way the people don't know what was purchased so keep that in mind as well!

Well, my shower is on Saturday and so far a grand total of 0 things have been purchased off my registry.

I don't know if they're all last minute shoppers or if they haven't updated the registry/aren't buying off the registry. Don't really care either way!

Agreed...as a person who has been to too many showers, I am a last minute gift buyer (and as are most of the other guests for the showers I've been too). Normally what I do when I get a shower invite is go online and check it out scope out what I want to buy and get it the pay day before the shower or the day before (the majority I have been to are on Sundays and people do most of their running around on Saturdays, not wanting to make a special trip out).

You may also have guests who buy online, and when I do that I usually prefer to have it sent directly to the recipients house so that I don't have to bother to wrap it or transport it.

We had some people who purchased stuff right when invites went out but most of the presents have been purchased around the 3-1 week out mark (shower is this Saturday).

I can't speak to this since I've received one gift that was delivered to my home. I can say that as a guest at weddings and showers. I usually don't go get a gift until the day before or at the most the week before. Heck, sometimes I go grab the gift the day of the party.
