Registry Info on Website - How to Word?

Danielle, on February 9, 2013 at 8:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hello...We are including our registry on our website... and I know that there are different opinions on if this is proper etiquette or not but we've decided to include a link.

We've registered at Crate and Barrel and would also like to suggest that people could additionally gift Home Depot gift cards (Home Depot doesn't do a registry anymore where we are)... we bought a home together about 2 years ago now and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to replace the floor in our home hence the gift card idea to put towards that.

What's a good way to word this? Of course I would like to word it in a way that is respectful and not demanding... but I am personally not feeling my creative juices flowing tonight Smiley smile

Registry info is typically put on a website...not in the invitations from what I have heard.

Yeah, having on the website is fine, having it on the invites is what is frowned upon.

I've heard you can register at Home Depot, so that guests can actually see what the gift cards are going towards -- check about that at your local store, might make it a little easier for you. Or use Amazon's Universal Registry to add items from Home Depot or Lowes.

As far as wording... perhaps something like "As we work to make our house a home for our family, we would appreciate any help towards some home projects." Something like that?

Yes to only on website, not on invitations (exception: shower invitations)

I think home depot will do a registry. If not, maybe just have bridal party spread the word about home depot?

If someone's opening the registry tab on your website, I don't think you have to get fancy with wording. Those people want to see what you want, so it's assumed you're going to be stating it IMO.

We just embedded logo hyperlinks on that tab, linking people to our BBB and Crate & Barrel registry pages. No wording or description at all.

For the Home Depot thing - you could copy/paste a Home Depot logo and add a hyperlink underneath to whatever product it is you want. Or under the logo, you can just say something like what Reenski said. "Gift cards to Home Depot are also greatly appreciated as we make our house a home!"

Thanks ladies - yes you're right ... if people are looking at the Registry tab, they obviously know what a registry is and for. The Home Depot's in our city definitely do not do the registries anymore (unfortunately!) ... I've checked! I think you're probably right - short and sweet is probably the best and just a line about making our house a home is perfect.. thanks Smiley smile Smiley smile

I put my registries on the Wedding Wire website (I have three), and I put them on the save-the-date magnets (2 of the registries), but my actual save-the-dates don't have the registries on them, and of course on shower invites (I guess I'm having 2 showers, about 30 people at each), and um....my fiances' sister just got married in January and she had a card added with information into the wedding invitation that had the registries listed - and it wasn't an RSVP card it was some other type of card, it was not obvious that the registries were there, you had to really look.
