Red lipstick to make FH happy...help?

OriginalRandi, on May 13, 2015 at 1:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

So FH would be over the moon if I wore red lipstick at our wedding, both because he loves it and also because he wants me to leave lipstick kisses on his face for pictures at the reception, lol. (We......might be a little sappy.) Anyway, I love wearing red lipstick but I'm nervous I would smear it because of the emphasis on, well, kissing that day. I mean obvs we won't be making out in front of everyone, but red lipstick can be messy, period. (And I have a childhood memory of my now-aunt kissing my uncle at their wedding and then grabbing his chin to turn his face to the audience and the whole crowd dying laughing because he had her red lipstick on his lips. It was a great moment, but that's not really the vibe I'm shooting for.) Is there any way I can protect myself from smearing and still get to leave a lipstick kiss on his cheek?

Similarly- brides who have gone with red or dark/vibrant lipstick--did you have trouble with smearing? How did you manage?

I agree a red stain won't be messy like a lipstick.

I second FMM- I've used red lip stains in the past and they look great but aren't super messy.

@FutureMrs.Myers, I thought about that, but then I wouldn't be able to leave the lipstick kisses? Lol I realize it's a silly dilemma. I guess maybe I could wear the stain and then apply a normal lipstick in the same color over the top later to be able to kiss him for some special pictures at the reception or something?

There's this cover girl stuff that's fabulous that I use. I can't remember the name, but it looks like lip gloss and then dries on your lips (completely) and you have a little Chapstick thing to keep it shiny and moisturized so it won't crack... But it stays on forever!

Oh just saw @Kimberly and @Beth, sorry slow internet. Ok yeah, I had a feeling stains were gonna be my best bet. Just love classic lipstick, both the look and feel, and also the perk of leaving lipstick kisses when you actually want to, ha.

Maybe a stain or my thing AND lipstick that you can apply specifically for the face smooches? That way you can wipe off the messy part when you're done?

@Future Mrs. JKR thanks! I think I may have seen that at the store while shopping for theatre makeup at some point? Anyway Covergirl is great. I'll have to check into it. ETA for your second comment- yeah, I was kind of wondering about something like that. I'm guessing that's going to end up being basically the way I go. Thanks!

Use a stain, and then put regular lipstick on for the lipstick kisses, then wipe off the regular lipstick when you are done with the kisses pictures Smiley smile Not a silly dilemma - my mind often works this way! haha

Yeah just buy a cheapo red for the lip pictures, and then wipe it off after. I'm for lip stain as well.

You could throw some red lipstick ontop of the stain for the kisses ? then just reapply the stain if you need to.

@Randi...you could still wear the red lipstick, but put a travel size package of make up wipes in your purse that day for him to wipe the lipstick off after you've done your photo op

@JamieLynn, @m, @FutureMrs.Myers, and @Maltese - thanks! It seems the general consensus is a combination of lip stain, lipstick, and makeup wipes. This is super helpful and now I feel a lot better about what to start looking out for as I continue to prepare for the big day. Thanks so much all!

Get a clear lipliner to use all over your lips. It should help prevent bleeding and (some) transfer. I've been using the NARS velvet matte lip color and with clear liner it stays better than most others.
