Recycled/used/clearance Wedding Decor

Dynesha, on September 4, 2019 at 8:15 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23
Is anyone using recycled/upcycled/used decor for their wedding? We are paying for the wedding ourselves and I don’t see the point in buying all new items when I can make/buy them used.
Which sites or resources are you using to buy the decor? I’ve seen a few items on Facebook Marketplace. I’ve also been buying out all the clearance items at home decor and craft stores that fit my theme. A lot of summer items are on clearance and my wedding is next summer. My mother keeps telling me to slow down on buying, but the summer item sales won’t last forever!

Half my stuff was used or clearance! I bought my decor from WeddingRecycle, Poshmark, thrift stores and Hobby Lobby during their 50% off sales. Anything I had to buy for retail price I always had at least two coupons. I’m a frugal queen!

I was hoping to snag some used décor but had trouble finding anything that fit what I was looking for, so I ended up hitting sales and using a ton of 40% off coupons haha. Facebook Marketplace has been the most promising place I've found, so I'd definitely keep an eye out there. You can also check with rental companies - they'd have a ton of stuff that you might not even think about - water pitchers, dance floors, popcorn machines - in addition to the normal things like linens, silverware, and dishes.

Have you found any wedding resale events? I got lucky and found a FancyFlip Event in my city.

I haven't, and at this point it's too late anyways. I think my hometown (2ish hours away) had some kind of indoor yardsale with a wedding focus right after I got engaged, but it was so early into the process that I had no idea what FH and I even wanted, so we skipped it. Had the timing been right, something like that would have been amazing!

I used my DIL’s vases and copied her idea for her centerpieces and that was a money saver. I also shopped sales and FB marketplace has lots of great deals on wedding things people are selling.

That makes complete sense to me.

Here’s the thing: It’s only ONE DAY!

You still have to eat and pay bills the next day, week, month.

You shouldn’t go broke or into debt over a Wedding.

I definitely will! I’m always looking on Facebook and seeing what stores have on clearance. I’ve seen stuff at Michael’s and At Home stores too.

Also, check the 💲🌴 to obtain essentials for a really good deal.

I saved quite a bit by purchasing Vases, Hand Sanitizers, LED votives, Garlands, double-sided Tape, Super Glue, etc... for diy projects.

I'm using some of my mom's vases for the reception! Also plan on borrowing a few things from my church's "wedding room" to decorate

I am borrowing some decor pieces from my friend. She has the 3 tiered vases still from her wedding and some wood crates I can use. I would just be careful of resell items. Facebook marketplace might be good but a lot of people try to upsell their used items. I found it was cheaper to buy my own items when there's sales like you said. Or look online for bulk websites.

I got a beautiful glass cake plate for our wedding cake on FB marketplace for $2!! I love it and i've been looking for other things on there as well. Weddings can be very expensive, so if you're finding stuff you like on sale I say get it so it doesn't come up on you all at once.

My advice would be to research the price and make sure. My friends sister got married. She told me she was selling some stuff thinking it was cheap, i pretty much paid the price she did. All I did was save on the taxes. I was a little upset but my friend didnt know so I never brought it up to her. Just be careful.

The majority of our centerpieces (candlesticks, candelabras, brass trinkets) are from thrift shops and Facebook marketplace, the rest are from Dollar Tree and clearance Hobby Lobby.

I’m getting married next fall, so I’m waiting for after this fall to buy up all the decorations from all this years autumn weddings on Facebook marketplace. That’s what my friend did for her wedding and she recommended it to me. Especially for candles, since I want a lot. If you think about it, these candles can burn for like 20 hours, a bride only uses them for a few, so they’re still good to use!

I’m also going to hobby lobby because I could live in that store.

Oh! Check out Homegoods too for wedding stuff, they’re owned by the same company as TJ maxx. I got my beautiful milk glass cake stand there for $8! Among other little things. They don’t have a wedding section but they definitely have wedding stuff.
