Rectangular tables? Seating Chart?

L&G, on July 27, 2015 at 3:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Ladies with rectangular tables - Are you seating couples side by side or across from eachother? We are doing assigned seating because i made super cute placecard wood cookie magnets haha. Just trying to sort out couple seating.

I'm doing them side by side probably, I also have long rectangular tables and I think that will work best.

I don't have rectangular but as a guest I would prefer sitting next to FH not across. I like to whisper and be able to physically be close to him. Plus we always share food. I feel like sitting across from each other would feel far. Just from a guest point of view.

Luckily, we have couples or families of three so our rectangle tables (seats 6) shouldn't be an issue aside from FH's mum/new husband. They are gonna end up sat across from each other, with their parents beside them - the alternative (unless a good chunk of his side don't RSVP yes) is making one very long table of all his side.

Can you just do assigned tables, not seats? Assigned seats makes me feel like I am in grade school. You could still use your place cards, but allow guests to pick their own seat (at the assigned table)

If you are set on assigned seats, I would say I would prefer to be next to FH.

We are doing ours across from each other for the most part. But I agree that you don't have to assign seats, we only have assigned seats for our head table.

We are having long rectangular tables also, but are only doing assigned tables. The only seats we are assigning are mine and FHs. I agree with sitting side by side. That's what FH and I are going to do.

We have rectangular tables but are doing escort cards, not place cards. If I had to pick, I think side by side also.

We are doing the farm tables and I'm only doing assigned tables, not seats. Some folks like to sit across from their spouses and some next to, so I'll let them decide that part. Smiley smile Personally, I like to sit next to. It's easier for me to sample what is on FH's plate. ha ha

I would prefer side by side. Esp since the tables at weddings tend to be on the larger side so across from each other you might be far away (that sounds funny because you're just across the table but I think you all know what I mean). Plus you're separated by centerpieces if you have them and it just seems like it would be harder to talk. If you need to say something quietly to your date, that would be hard across the table also.
