Reception Venues in SOMD under $500

Lorith, on June 18, 2015 at 2:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I'm already feeling like it's an impossible venture. I'm on a tight budget, and unfortunately I also have a pushy mother who wants me to have my reception at our local fire dept. If they had a proper hall that would be fine, but it would be in the apparatus bay and that's far from tasteful to me. I do not want the alarms going off during my reception or the radio chatter over top of everything going on. She is pushing because it's free. It's that or the $50 hall in her neighborhood that she can get, but it has a 100% no alcohol policy.

So, if neither of those, I'm on my own. A $500 budget is weak, I know, but it's what I have. Does anyone know of a good reception venue I could get within my budget?

Like $500 total? Or $500 rental fee?

We used PG County Parks & Rec to find our venue and they were super cheap:

It's not quite Southern MD, but it's not very far.

The catch is...these venues don't come with ANYTHING else. I mean, you have to provide catering, decor, lighting, music, some kind of planner/DOC, alcohol.....EVERYTHING. So keep that in mind. Bu the rental fee itself is cheap.

Can you have alcohol at the firehouse? Honestly, if it's free and you can do what you want, might not be a bad plan. County property works well, but in CA, none of them include tables and chairs.

I was going to say what Katy said: Look on your county website for parks or other places that you can get for free/cheap.

I know Howard County and Ann Arundel County have some places

My historic park & rec venue includes tables and chairs. They are the cheap kind though. I mean, it's a beautiful venue, it's just very empty! I'm looking at Charles County now, and it looks like historic St. Mary's has venues for around $300:

You're going to have to think outside the box with a $500 venue budget.

Good luck! There are some great brides on here who did they're wedding on a budget (I am not one of them or I would be all over helping out! sorry!).

$500 rental fee. I can definitely afford more, but my parents will only help if is a total of $500 or less total for the rental fee. Thanks for all of the help. I'll definitely look on the county website and see what I can find.

In reference to @Katy -- Historic St. Mary's City has a 3 hour minimum, therefore $900 minimum. Beautiful venue though.. so lovely we're getting married there. Smiley winking

Is there a firehouse with a hall nearby? I was looking at these and FH (a paramedic) confirmed that you will not be able to hear the alarms in the hall with the way the design them. Otherwise, historic venues, county venues... And that's all I can think of. MD is so expensive, so I completely feel your pain.

Are your parents willing to contribute $500 toward the total cost of the hall?

Most halls under $500 would not include even tables & chairs. By the time you rent EVERYTHING, it will get expensive.

The Bryans Road Fire Department is fairly new and have a reception area. The cost range fro $800-$1200 depending on the number of hours.
