Reception Timeline

Danielle, on January 4, 2021 at 10:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
Hello friends! I have a few things that I need help working into my timeline. I greatly appreciate any input!!
First - we have recently made the decision to move from a served buffet to an All - Graze buffet which our venue highly recommends as we don’t have to dedicate a full hour+ for dinner and people can eat as they please throughout the night and the party can start immediately. However - I worry that with a 5p ceremony and a 645/7p reception time everyone will be rushing to the buffet table.

Secondly, we post come from divorced families. So we have 2 father/daughter dances and 2 mother/son dances. How on earth do we incorporate all of these dances in addition to the the traditional reception activities?
Again, you help is greatly appreciated!!! Below is a roughy death of our timeline.
5:00p ceremony 5:30 cocktail hour/pictures 645 - entrance and first dance
(Parent dances, cake cutting, shoe game, garter/bouquet toss)
10p - send off

Will there be staff serving from the graze buffet?

I think you will have enough time to squeeze all of the dances in there, but I would recommend limiting each dance to around 1 minute. 5 dances is a lot and I think if you do not shorten them, you will lose the attention of your guests.

I agree with PP as to making sure each dance is around 1 minute long because that would be more doable with the number of dances that you have to fit in.

Also, as Meghan mentioned, will there be staff serving the contents of the graze buffet? This would be very important due to Covid, especially because your wedding is 2 months from now...

I agree - I’d keep the parent dances as short and sweet as possible!

Could you dance with your dad while your fiancé dances with his mom? And then switch parents for a second song??
