Reception Timeline -- Help!

Megan, on October 2, 2017 at 1:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Does anyone have suggestions for the reception timeline. The things that we need to get in are first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, 3 toasts (they have been instructed to be quick), cake cutting. We will enter the reception along with our wedding party at 6:30 after an hour long cocktail hour. We are having a stations style dinner, and I would ideally like to be dancing by 8:30. Any ideas on how to organize the timeline so that people get up and dance and aren't sitting for too long?

Highly unlikely you will be dancing by 8:30.

The dances, toasts, and cake will take 30-45 alone. Dinner another 60 (provided they are efficient).

So in one hour you want to:

    first dance

    father/daughter dance

    mother/son dance

    3 toasts

    cake cutting

    dinner

    What's your hurry?

Also, your venue coordinator/doc,dj and photographer can help with your timeline.

Does this seem like a reasonable timeline?

    5:30-6:30: Cocktail Hour

    6:30-6:45: Guests seated in reception

6:45-7: Wedding party and bride and groom entrance

    7:00-7:05: First dance

    7:05-7:15 – Welcome and Blessing

    7:15-8:15 – Dinner and toasts

    8:15-8:30 – Father/Daughter and Mother Son/Dance

    8:30-9:30 -- Dancing

    9:30 – Cake Cutting

    9:40-10:30: Dancing

I would want more than two hours to dance, personally.

Oh my bad I was thinking the reception started at 7:30. I would do the cake cutting after the dances. Honestly I would just do all the dances right off the bat.
