Reception Thoughts

sunshine, on May 28, 2017 at 2:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Thoughts about having our ceremony and reception at a small camp ground on a river, ending the evening with staying the night / camping?

Most everybody invited to the wedding are campers and that is our favorite thing to do, (& how we got engaged).

I also thought this would be a better use of our money - paying for everybody to camp rather than paying for transportation after the ceremony.

Also - the venue we are looking at is an hour away from the town that the majority of our guests live in. So we're think having the option to stay the night would be a plus for our guests.

Unless this campground has cabins, I would advise against. Most people aren't going to want to dress up for a wedding followed by tent camping. Instead consider incorporating camping elements like a bonfire with smores later in the evening.

What does the campsite look like? Any photos?

There are a couple places we were thinking of - the first option is one that's for RV / tents and the second I haven't researched much about I believe has cabins.

I don't want our guests to be super dressed up, only our bridal shower really. We are planning on an out door wedding, with a BBQ for our reception, rustic / boho / country themed.

No. I've been to a wedding at a campsite and it was wonderful. However, there was no expectation tgat anyone would spend the night, and it was fully catered with an open bar. It was a Girl Guide camp that they rented out for events and it had cabins and a lake. If you did something like this and didn't have any expectations of people staying, I think you could have your "camping wedding" and still make everyone happy.

I think this is a know your crowd kinda thing. We have several campsites that rent out, but to my knowledge, none of my couples have had people camp. Those weddings are lovely, but I actually have gone camping and I honestly don't think the two mix. Camping is work

I think Sarah's idea is really the best; include touches in the celebration.

People are quick to jump on anything that is a bit out of the ordinary. It is a know your crowd situation. Your younger friends may be super excited about it. How do you think your parents/grandparents would feel about it? Given that it is an hour away from town, they wouldn't really have an option for alternate transportation if they wanted to drink.

I think it's a great idea if you are 100% sure your desired guests would like it, or if you could find a summer camp with cabins.

I am sure that all of our friends would like this idea because they wouldn't have to worry about finding rides home and we wouldn't have to worry about getting them home, plus this gives them the option of staying as long as they want, which is something we would love.

BUT, like you say @muriel - grandparents - they are my concern. If we had cabins I think they would be more inclined to the idea, I could never make them sleep in a tent anyways! I

I guess I just need to do more research before we decide!

Thank you all - this is why I asked - you guys give me a different perspective and help me not jump to something w/out thinking about everything. Smiley smile
