Reception Tables

Sarah, on October 26, 2020 at 9:55 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any websites people are able to re-sell décor or other things purchased for their wedding after they are done with them. I am considering purchasing some table décor vs renting and trying to do research for where and if I would be able to re-sell. No one really needs 200 cloth napkins? lol

I'm not aware of any wedding-specific sites, though people often sell reusable wedding items on Facebook Marketplace, or eBay, or Poshmark.

There are no wedding specific sites. Most people resell on Craigslist, Offerup/Letgo apps and Facebook Marketplace. But don't expect to get much money back.

It's more economical to rent whatever you can, and there's not much that isn't available.
What many people *don't* factor in to the low cost of $1 table linens or any other given item is the time and labor involved. For your linens, who's going to steam 12 tablecloths plus 100 napkins, get them to the venue, where you have to set up/tear down and take them home to clean them all (are they washable? Many are not) and try to figure out to sell them and hope you get money back to cover your time and labor. Multiply that by any product you plan to purchase rather than rent. You as the bride don't have time with everything else going on..getting dressed and dolled up. Same for groom and attendants. It's not your guests' job either. But someone has to do it. That's why it's more economical to leave it up to the pros and rent everything you can.
You could donate linens and vases to a local church..but again you don't have time to do all the labor involved and it's not in your attendants' job descriptions.

I see items posted on Facebook Market Place and Offer Up all the time. I would also try Goodwill or other similar stores. Personally, I think renting makes more sense at the end of the day. If you purchase, you'll have to make sure you have places to store all the items and then try to resell and a fraction of the cost. Good luck!

I would try to Facebook marketplace. In my city at least, it's a popular method of buying and selling used wedding items

WeddingBee has a forum for this, but I agree with others, you aren't going to see much more than a 10-20% recoup on your costs. There are several regional facebook groups also for selling wedding related products.
