My fiancé and I are music lovers, but we’re having a hard time brainstorming some music ideas. I feel like we’re missing so many good ones! We love alt rock, especially from the 90’s, but we love most music (just not country or dub step stuff). Any recommendations? And it’s totally fine if it’s not a typical wedding reception song (sad songs are our jam). Our favorite musicians are The Beatles, Incubus, Audio Slave, Yes, Blind Melon, Sound Garden, Counting Crows, The Allman Brothers, for some ideas of our taste. Recommendations appreciated!!

We went through a bunch of 80s and 90s playlists on YouTube and found a lot of songs to use for the reception! 😊

A song from the 90s that really excites my fiancé and I (and it is also fun and upbeat) is "Praise You' by Fatboy Slim. It is DEFINITELY going on one of our reception playlists.

If that's the case, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Music is super important to us as well (FH has been playing guitar since he was a kid). I just had this same conversation with him (and we have similar tastes in music as you!). We will be giving the DJ some suggestions and explain what kind of music we prefer, but allowing them to use their professional judgement and read the room appropriately. I figure, if I wanted to dictate every song, I wouldn't have shelled out all that money for a DJ when my phone would have sufficed. That and not stressing over coming up with tons and tons of songs makes me feel better lol.

All that being said, some AC/DC and Queen songs can be a lot of fun, as well as some classic 90s pop punk (What's My Age Again by Blink-182 for instance). I was at a wedding recently where they played Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf and it was a crowd hit.

This is our plan. We have talked about having a 90s theme and doing mostly 90s hip hop and R&B because that is what we listen to the most.
We are going to have the song request line on our RSVP cards too.
