Reception Seating

Emma, on February 28, 2020 at 11:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Is it customary to have extra seating available for vendors (i.e. the photographers or DOC)? I mean I imagine they will be moving around and doing things but we were planning on having food to offer them, so should we have spots for them to sit too? I've now overthought this too much and need advice!

I think they usually eat somewhere else within the venue rather than directly in the reception space with everyone else

Yes, off to the side so they, too, have a little privacy and get a break from the day. The venue should be able to assist you with a recommendation where to put the vendor table.

Our caterers provided a table in the kitchen for vendors to eat at.

They should have a place to sit and eat. If there’s somewhere away from guests, that would be preferable, but it was in our videographer’s contract that we had to be within view.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to ask the venue what they typically do. It's just one big room so unless they actually leave the room I feel like they'll be right there with the guests.

Where did you end up sitting your videographer? We really only have the one big room at the venue so I'm guessing we'll end up putting them somewhere on the side?

We invited ours to sit and mingle with our guests but they could choose to be by themselves if they preferred that. They chose to sit with the guests.

Our venue reserves the table "Farthest" from the head table for vendors (the comparable table on the other side of the room is closest to the bar!), so they still sit with the guests, but no guest would feel slighted that they were at the "last" table.

Speak with your venue. Usually they eat somewhere else, because its part of their break. Smiley smile

We’re just going to have a separate table for them, but still in the main room. I wouldn’t want them way off in a separate room because they could miss photographing/videoing something. If they’re sitting with everyone else, they can pop up at any time to capture a special moment!

Our vendors present during the wedding ate in a nearby "break room" outside our reception hall. You might want to check with your venue to see what available options they provide.
