Reception on low key river boat how to keep it fun

Kayla, on October 15, 2019 at 9:28 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

We are having a 3.5 hour cruise on a riverboat for our reception with about 50 guests. My concern is what can we do to keep guests entertained during this time. I think we will want to play the couples shoe game but aren't really leaning toward any of the other traditional wedding things like cake cutting and first dances and all that. I would think there would be some speeches mixed in there. Dinner will not be formal sit down but more of a grab a plate at will buffet. The views will really be the stand out but I dont want guests feeling trapped and bored halfway through. Any thoughts?

So I went to a wedding recently where there was nothing but the dinner and it was a four hour reception. They had no speeches, no dances, no tosses, no cake cutting, etc. However they had some stations such as photobooth and a table where you can write them notes and advice. Generally people can entertain themselves.

I don't think you need to entertain your guests. They will all just be enjoying each other's company, taking in the sights, and enjoying some food. Just make sure you have some music and you are all good!

I think you should have a DJ

I am loving your venue choice, Kayla! So unique! With that beautiful backdrop, I don’t see how any guests could get bored

Would you consider a DJ or some form of musical entertainment?

We will definitely have music but we creating our own playlist as we are BIG music people and a very close friend of ours who manages big festivals offered to step in and MC the night. I dont think music will be the issue. Just wasn't sure If I needed to provided specific events to keep others entertained or if the music, scenery, food, and socializing would be enough.

I think you will be pretty surprised at how fast that 3.5 hours will go. If you already have music figured out, I wouldn't worry too much on planning any specific entertainment. It will fly by and with the eating and socializing you will be good.
