Reception Music

Charlotte, on July 7, 2021 at 1:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7

We are having a live musician (sings, plays guitar) who also has a dj set-up to play any recorded music that is not part of his typical performance. That said, I need to make a list of all the songs I want played during the dancing portion of the reception. We like country, classic rock, and reggae, but we're open to whatever gets people moving.

Songs we've selected so far:

- Grandparents & Parents Walk - Can't Help Falling In Love, Vitamin String Quartet

- Bridal Party Walk - Faithfully, Vitamin String Quartet

- Bride Walk - Canon in D, Brooklyn Duo

- Communion/Unity - Bride's Brother Plays Piano

- Recessional - This Will Be (An Everlasting Love), Natalie Cole

- Bridal Party Entrance to Reception - I'll Be There, Walk The Earth

- Bride and Groom Entrance to Reception - Thunderstruck, AC/DC

- First Dance - All For You, Iration

- Mother/Son - Simple Man, Caitlin Koch

- Father/Daughter - Butterfly Kisses, Bob Carlisle

- Parents and Couple - Sweet By and By, Miranda Lambert

- Last Dance - Amazed, Lonestar

Suggestions we've gotten so far:

- I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Whitney Houston

- Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond

- Dancing Queen, ABBA

- Benny & The Jets, Elton John

- Pour Some Sugar On Me, Def Leppard

- Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Jet

- Rock of Ages, Def Leppard

- Wobble, VIC

- Copperhead Road, Steve Earle

- Beggin', Maneskin

Do you really need to provide a full playlist for the open dancing? Usually, that's what a DJ does, and good ones know how to monitor the crowd, choosing songs that keep the dance floor full throughout the party.

I would just let your DJ know what songs you don't want played, and your general preferences, and then leave it at that. Much easier on you that way.

Thanks for the input, Maggie. He's definitely a "good one," as far as being a musician. He's not a dj though - he's a live musician that has the equipment to be able to play recorded music in between his songs. He usually performs at bars and live music venues, and does a few weddings here and there. That's why he requested a list of all music other than what is in his live set. We absolutely love his live show - He's very talented, but being a country singer and not a typical wedding dj, he was honest with us in stating that he has all of his couples give him a list when it comes to wedding music since it's not what he does all the time. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear it Smiley smile

Oh, OK. I thought he was both a musician and a DJ. Yeah, I guess in this cause you do need to provide a whole playlist. I bet there are examples already of wedding playlists in Spotify or other online sources. I would download some of those, delete the songs you don't like, and provide that.

If you want people to dance, you need an actual dj. They will read the crowd and play what is appropriate that guests respond to.

Thanks for the input, Michelle. We met our musician at a wedding and there was plenty of dancing, we hired him on the spot during my friend's wedding reception. Also, wedding is in 6 weeks, so no changing it now.

You would think that in a forum for brides, people would be helpful, not snarky.

If you have a song suggestion, I'd love to hear it Smiley smile

For country, you can’t go wrong with Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, Home Free, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shelton, Band Perry, Carrie Underwood
