Reception in a tent

Kiarra, on January 7, 2017 at 3:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Has anyone done/ been to an outside reception in a tent during the summer? And was it a bearable reception? A little backstory, I'm getting married in July in Northern Virginia and it gets pretty humid here. I was told that with some misting fans and regular fans combined that I could really cool down the temperature, but I am still skeptical. We have some older guests attending and I don't want them to be hot all evening.

I've been to three outside summer tent receptions. If there were fans I didn't notice. I don't remember being particularly uncomfortable though.

They have ac units you can rent , but please make sure you have siding on the tent to keep the cold air in and comfortable for everyone.

There are air conditioned tents, but they're obviously going to be more expensive. Fans won't be enough for that kind of weather.

If you do it, have an air conditioned tent. I went to one this past August and had to change into shorts and a tank top after the cake cutting because I was so drenched in sweat. 2 people passed out. All of the pictures people clearly had sweat stains.

Remember that plastic, which is of what most rent-a-tents are made, doesn't breathe. If you're in a humid climate, you're essentially creating a greenhouse. The plastic walls only do so much to keep in air-conditioning and keep out bugs. Misting fans will only make the humidity worse.

I was at a tented wedding in North Carolina in September this year and it was miserable, there was only one big industrial fan and all the guests were standing in a crowd around it all night to cool off. I'd suggest getting a tent with walls and have a sufficient amount of fans or AC.

I'm in Jersey and it gets hot in July. Cant imagine being in a tent....in a wedding dress. I'm think I'm more concerned about you than the guests.

I'm in MD and a tent wedding in summer was a big ol nope for us- might be ok with AC but I assume you'll still have to deal with getting through the day in a wedding gown, which might suck.

I initially was going g to do this , but realized that it was cheaper in the end to get a venue that includes food . At least in Ohio that was the case . We have alot of older people in the family and I didn't want them out in the heat in July .

I don't think misting fans are appropriate.

I live in Northern Virginia and July is hot. Is there a particular reason why you want to have it in the summer? I second the rental of AC if you can't change it to a cooler month.

From a guest's perspective, if I was invited to your wedding and I knew it would be outdoors AT ALL, ceremony or reception, in July in such a hot, humid area, I would just decline. I don't care how close I was to you, I'd decline.

If I showed up and found out it was outdoors, I'd leave, gift in hand. I'm not getting sunstroke because you felt it was okay to behave selfishly and have your wedding outside in the middle of a hot, humid summer. Oh hell no.
