Reception ideas

Ashley, on August 19, 2019 at 12:45 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
So...I've been trying to plan our reception and we do plan on having a DJ for music. However most if not all of the people on my side will not dance and half of my fiance's side most likely won't dance either. We want to include other things for them. We are having an indoor reception so lawn games won't make sense but we have a few ideas which are similar to ice breaker games but are things people can do at their leisure. I really liked my ideas until my mom hated on the whole thing. What are some fun things I can incorporate for people who don't like to dance?

I would still definitely have a DJ, your guests might surprise you! What is your mom hating about specifically, the ice breaker games? Photo booths are always a hit among guests (I love those!) if money is not an issue. How many guests are you expecting?

My mom is the same way-she likes her ideas and that’s about it! I am planning on making a “selfie scavenger hunt” for guests to complete during cocktail hour/down times during the reception. My mom’s idea is to have the DJ play the music super quietly because people would “probably rather talk”. So we’ll see!

We were planning on doing a photo scavenger hunt too and also we were going to have a funny advice for the bride and groom mad libs. I was planning on having these just setting out somewhere so people could do them if they want. I know from my sister's wedding ( and being related to these people) that they absolutely won't dance but I'm trying to entertain them too.

We already have the DJ. We were thinking about having a photo scavenger hunt, and advice for the bride and groom mad libs. Our venue also provides a photo booth. My mom thought our ideas were 'hoeky" and that if I wanted to entertain people I could hire entertainment like a magician but I definitely don't want that. It would make my reception feel like a carnival.

That's great then! I think the photo scavenger hunt would be a great addition! You don't need to hire a magician at all! Skip that! You already have enough entertainment, and the adults would know what to do.

Honestly, good food & booze are plenty! I’d do more “food & drink” stations to encourage interaction among guests. For example, a mashed potato or mac & cheese bar (served in fancy martini glasses). A fancy coffee/latte bar as part of the dessert table.

A fun “guest book” table with a poloroid camera or “love notes” to let your guests do more than sign a book could be fun. Although a photo booth is great for that too.
