Reception guest count dilemma

Erin, on July 21, 2020 at 5:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

My FH and I have scrambled to find last minute outdoor venues for our upcoming September wedding. First we planned to postpone, but realized we do not want to put our life on hold, so we decided to cut out guest list and basically replan everything with almost 1 month left.

So here is the dilemma - our reception has a minimum of 150 guests to rent out the whole place and it's about $50/person. I really am not comfortable having 150 people even if it's socially distancing so my FH said it is fine if we only invite about 50-70 people. I do feel like it's a waste of money to not fulfill the guest count but we already put the deposit to reserve the space. My FH said the cost is no big deal to him as long as we can have a reception. Not sure if we should just invite 150 people or stick to 70 people max??

I think it makes more sense to just do the 70 maximum

Safety is more important than money. Stick with the smaller guest list.

Have your invites gone out already? If so, invite everyone. Uninviting if they have already received an invitation is rude and etiquette is still in place during a pandemic. Sit down with your fiance and make a decision on what you are both comfortable with.

If you cut your guest list, will the venue/caterer fine you?

I would invite the 70 people because everyone's safety should be more important.

Personally I’d invite the 150 and let them decide for themselves. You will definitely not have everyone say yes. You’d probably end up somewhere between 100-120 I’m guessing. Just my opinion! I’d definitely invite more than 70.

I'd invite the smaller list you're comfortable with. Etiquette is still in place, but the rules are flexible right now. Everything is different and people will understand. It's your day and you deserve to be comfortable, so if you want a smaller list, that's okay.
