We are having a taco bar at our wedding because we host taco Tuesday every week and Mexican food is our favorite thing. I had questioned on whether or not we should do like some chicken tenders for our guests who have children, because kids can be picky. My caterer along with some family members of mine said not to, that most people will more than likely feed their kids before they come since we are getting married at 6pm. My future father in law however didn't take too kindly to that and some nasty remarks about my family who said not to do that. We also are having cheesecake bites instead of a traditional cake because my fiance doesn't eat cake. I considered doing something else and was again told not to by my caterer and family members...again this was met with harshness from my future father in law.

Sorry, but it sounds like your FFIL is a real jerk. I mean, so he doesn't agree with you not having a different meal available for kids. Fine, don't agree with that. But don't say bad things about other people!!!! Is he an adult, or what? Name calling? Nasty remarks? Just because he doesn't agree with a decision that is solely YOURS and FHs to make? Nope. I'd be ignoring anything that comes out of his mouth from here on out.

What you are planning is perfectly fine. Most of the kids I know would love a taco bar, where they could choose their own toppings! Even my 2-year old granddaughter, who ate tacos with me just last night! Just put the info about the menu on your wedding website, so that guests with kids can plan accordingly. They know their kids better than you do, and can choose to feed them beforehand if they think their kids won't eat at the wedding.

If people are that picky, they can stay home or go eat elsewhere afterwards. I have never heard of parents feeding kids before they arrive, nor would I expect that to happen. Some kids are picky but not all. Same goes for adults. You won't be able to please everyone even if you were serving a standard steak/chicken option, so follow your gut and stick to the tacos
