Reception Food Help! - Soup Bar?

Aubrey, on November 19, 2019 at 6:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Our wedding is late October next year. We live in the Blue Ridge Mountains where it quickly cools off in the evenings. We are trying to decide on our menu for the reception and would like to do something unique. We thought of doing a taco bar but just recently came up with the idea of doing the main entree as the following: a potato bar with various toppings, a soup bar with a handful of different options and then a grilled cheese station where you can pick what you want on it (type of cheese, ham, tomato, etc.) and they make it on a flat top. Has anyone done this before? Any thoughts or feedback someone can provide?

It sounds good but my only thought is that people have a hard time managing multiple plates and with soup that adds more to handle.

For me it have to be a hearty soup. If I'm understanding correctly that's soup n potatoes. You need to spice it up a lil.

I personally love soup so I love the idea of a soup bar. I would just make sure they are hearty soups and the other items you are serving are also hearty enough for a meal.

It does sound good but I kind of wonder to myself how long it'll take for everyone to go thru each station? Sort of like if people will linger too long or if the grilled cheese will take too long to make with so many people waiting

To me, this just doesn’t sound like enough food. I wouldn’t be interested in having more than one kind/one bowl of soup. In essence, the options are soup (usually a first course), a potato(usually a side) and a grilled cheese which doesn’t sound heavy enough to really fill me at dinner.

For a main course I would think grilled cheese with some hearty protein options. What sides or other dishes will you offer guests?
