Reception extras

Ansley, on January 14, 2018 at 11:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17
Are you doing any reception “extras” to keep your guests busy? We are doing pictures before the ceremony so it’s not like guests will be waiting on us to finish those, but I want something other than just food in the reception. I think we’re gonna have a Bible laying out for everyone to highlight their favorite verse, and a photo booth with a Polaroid camera! What are some things y’all are doing?

Dancing and a bar? That with the food should be fine!

We aren't doing dancing. You know your crowd, but finding a Bible verse would not fly at all with our guests!

We are having a magician as well as games.

We're taking everyone who wants to go sailing beforehand. Smiley smile We're not doing dancing, I think most of us will be too tired after an afternoon of sailing anyways.

I don’t know about “extras”. I would not be comfortable with putting a Bible out, but if that’s your idea of “fun” then go for it.

My venue is a yacht & the ceremony/reception is a harbor cruise at sunset. The 3rd deck is an outdoor lounge area where guests can relax and enjoy a cocktail and watch the scenery. We’re also having a full bar and a DJ. I’m debating a photobooth.

Our DJ included a photobooth for 3 hours and we are getting married at a vineyard so we will have a wine tasting station at cocktail hour.

I really like the Bible idea. I've seen that before and thought about doing it myself. It depends on your crowd of people. I imagine since you even entertained the idea it would work with your guests. My venue has a good side yard that during cocktail hour we will have cornhole boards set up. That may not be for everyone, but we frequently play cornhole with our friends.

Is the Bible meant to be your guest book? Are all your guests Christian? I'd have no idea what to write in it- if I can't highlight a verse because I don't know any, do I write in it at all? Where? Will you even see it?

We had dancing for those who wanted to, and an open bar.

Our wedding is a traditional church wedding and most of our guests are Christians, and even if they aren’t, they don’t have to do the highlighting. I’m having a formal guest book going into the ceremony so the Bible thing will be more like just us going through and reading scripture that is important to those close to us. The photo booth I guess is kinda like a guest book too but they don’t have to write anything..I just like the idea of props and the Polaroid camera where we can put pictures into an album and look back on them!

We are having an open photo booth and dancing. Also during the photo taking time we will have a lounge where they can drink and socialize before the reception starts.

We’re having a photo booth and a guest box where instead of signing a book they sign their names on little wooden hearts and drop it in the box.

There are a lot of ideas on Pinterest, I got a lot of ideas for our reception from there, our reception will be held outdoors by the cave our ceremony will be held in, and because we aren't doing any alcohol we wanted to come up with other things, we have a lot of children in our family so we will have a table made just for them, corn hole a photo booth and dancing set up, our catering will be done with food trucks. Good luck with your planning

We'll be outside with a more casual evironment. Along with dinner, dancing and drinks there will be horseshoes, I'd like to do s'mores and maybe frisbees or kites hanging out. (Frisbees and kites might be too much but it's a cheap addition.)

All they need is food, alcohol, and a great band or DJ.

As far as the bible thing goes, the fact that all your guests might not be Christian aside, this is something that's going to be way too time-consuming. People aren't going to wait in a line for god knows how long to flip through god knows how many pages to find their favorite passage. Logistically it just doesn't make sense, and not something I've ever seen at a wedding, and I'm a professional wedding singer.
