Reception entertainment?

Lauren, on April 4, 2019 at 1:37 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hello! My fiance and I will be hosting a fairly simply dinner reception at Maggiano's Little Italy after our wedding ceremony in October. We are expecting ~50 guests and have reserved one of the restaurant's private banquet rooms for the reception. There will be lots of food, an open bar, access to an outdoor patio, and a guestbook... all good things, but I worry we might need something else to keep our guests entertained. We're still trying to decide whether to have dancing or not bc neither of us really like dancing, but we realize it's a good form of entertainment for our guests. We've also considered activities like the shoe game and marriage advice cards, but we're worried it might come off as a little too cheesy and forced. On one hand I feel that we're all adults and can have a good time without all the extra entertainment, but I'd hate to be wrong in that assumption and end up with a bunch of disappointed guests. What are your thoughts on this? Is dinner enough or should we plan to include something extra? Thoughts on dancing, (even when the bride and groom don't really want to dance)? Entertainment suggestions are also welcome!! Thanks in advance Smiley smile

Dancing is a traditional fun way to entertain guests at wedding receptions. You can still have dancing, even if the B&G don't dance. Otherwise, I'd probably just have some music playing in the background and maybe set out some corn hole boards on the patio.

We are having dancing and neither of us dance. That is for everyone else. They can dance if they want or they can mingle.

It shouldn't really matter if the bride and groom don't like to dance, the reception is for the guests. I would do dancing or a live band could be cool! And yes, the shoe game is perfectly fine to do, it's not forced. And you can have outdoor games like Danielle said, or giant jenga is always fun!

I didn't want to have dancing either but we are doing it for our guests. I like the shoe game and I don't think its cheesy.

Did you and your FS decide to add any additional entertainment to the reception? If so, what will you be including?

My sister did this exact thing for her wedding last year!

The maggianos she used had a speaker with an ipod dock available so she made a playlist and let it run through the night with some happy but chill music. Some danced, most did not. It didn't seem awkward or boring to me!
