Reception dress or stay in gown?

Crystal , on March 26, 2018 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 40
I have heard a lot of women changing into another outfit for reception, and it might be a lot easier to dance and so forth
But on the other hand all the money spent on the wedding gown, I feel like I should wear it the entire event seeing as I won't use again. Any thoughts on this?

I spent a pretty penny on my wedding dress. I specifically bought a dress I felt beautiful AND comfortable in so I didn't feel the need to change. Some people want two and thats totally cool, but for the most part I think its a little extra to buy two.

Side note: I love the dresses that are interchangeable, like, wearing the ball gown for the ceremony and having a detachable skirt to have a more form fitting dress underneath or shorter dress. I think these are unique and still only count as one dress.

If you’re spending a lot on your wedding dress you might as well wear it to the reception, but for me I fell in love with the idea of changing into a shorter dress for the reception. So much easier to dance in & more comfortable. And so many more photo ops!

I spent a lot and I do feel comfortable, in saying that I felt I should wear all night, but yes the idea of a second for photos is great,or yes the detachable is a great idea. Then the thought for me is having to find another dress. I am extremely picky and not sure if I would find in time with everything else going on. I love hearing what other ladies think. Thank you

If I’d have gotten a poofy dress I would’ve considered changing just to be more comfortable and less hot. We all know wedding dresses are super hot to be in for long! But the dress I got is fitting and slim and light so I shouldn’t have a problem being in it all night

I get it, but it's not for me. I want to enjoy my dress every minute I can!

I settled on a form fitting, lighter lace dress so I can just bustle the back and not worry about changing. I feel like it's personal preference, I splurged on my dress and made sure the venue was WELL air-conditioned so I won't feel the need to change but some would feel the need have even more freedom to move around. Totally your choice, everyone will find you beautiful either way! 😊

I'm planing On changing after the first dance. I'll be outside the whole day and even in October it can still be very hot in florida.

I plan to have an inexpensive backup dress just in case it turns out my dress is not comfortable.

If it's 10 pm and the photographer and half of my guests have left, I won't want to stay uncomfortable for the last two hours no matter how much I spent on my wedding dress.

I wore my gown the entire time. Wedding gowns aren't cheap and it's not as if you'll be wearing it again.

I'm definitely wearing my dress throughout the entire reception (and to the after party!)

I'll have countless opportunities to wear a short/comfortable dress in my life, but I'll only have one day to wear my wedding dress.

I heavily considered how comfortable dresses were when trying them on, and even did a "sit test" with heels in the store!! I couldn't justify spending so much money on a dress to wear it for an hour, but if others want to change into another dress more power to them.

We wore our dresses for both the reception after the ceremony, and the at-home reception three days later. With a bustle, it's not hard to dance in a wedding dress. Why spend all that money on a dress you wear for half an hour?

I feel like it depends on your dress. I have a comfortable sheath gown, so I'm sticking to one dress. But if I had purchased a ballgown or mermaid style dress, then I'd probably want to change into something more comfortable.

I bought a dress that I feel comfortable in as well as beautiful, and I have every intention of wearing it as long as I can the day of! But that's just me. Depending on the type of ceremony/reception, or the dress itself, it may make sense to have a secondary dress. but I also love the dresses that have detachable skirts or other small features to it that let it convert easily.

I plan to wear mine the whole time (assuming I'll actually find a dress.... ho hum...). But we are having an after-party and I'll change out to something casual then. But ceremony + reception I don't plan to change except maybe my shoes.

I would have stayed in my dress all day if it wasn't for the fact that we went to a hockey game that night and I would have been cold in my short dress. Also my husband bought me a jersey with Mrs new last name on the back.

Personally I am changing after the reception into a shorter white dress. My ceremony dress is mermaid and form fitting and I knew I would not be able to dance or even sit in it for very long. As much as I would love to stay in it I also want to enjoy the night but I didnt want to give up my dream dress to wear another dress down the aisle so I could wear it all night...so I compromised and got a 2nd shorter dress!

I totally agree. You’ll feel so beautiful in your wedding gown you probably won’t even want to take it off! Even if it’s a little hard to dance in I’m sure it will be worth it!

So my dress is huge and I will not be able to get in a car (I'm getting dressed at the venue) but I will wear my dress for the reception but change into something else right before the exit(haven't found my outfit yet but thinking maybe a cute jumpsuit or romper).
