It is normal to change out of your wedding dress after the ceremony into an outfit for the reception. Just so your dress doenst get ruined?

Thank you so much, I love the bodice of your wedding dress, and your second outfit looks so comfy, have you decided on shoes and accessories yet?

I'd say its not uncommon to change but also not uncommon to stay in one dress the whole night. Some will say changing is good because it prevents your first dress from getting ruined, but others will say why spend so much on a dress only to wear it for a short ceremony and some photos after - you might as well wear that expensive dress as long as you can because you'll never wear it again after.

To me changing makes sense if your ceremony dress is impractical to wear for dancing, sitting, etc. For example if you have a giant ballgown, huge train, or a super tight fit and flare dress, you might be more comfortable in a less structured dress while sitting down for dinner or busting moves on the dance floor. Also if you really love two very different styles of dress, having two dresses can allow you to have both.

One of my friends isn't really a dress person and she wore her sister's dress for her ceremony and changed into a white jumpsuit for after. It rained a ton prior to her wedding and their ceremony was outside, so the dress she was wearing got huge water/mud stains on it. Changing into a jumpsuit was perfect because she had a clean, dry outfit to wear for the rest of her wedding and it was so much more "her" and she was much more comfortable.

However, having two outfits can double the cost, because you need to buy two dresses, sometimes different shoes and accessories, and have to have both fitted. Plus you need to coordinate an outfit change into your wedding timeline, etc. There is no right or wrong answer and both have advantages and disadvantages. It's really what works best for you!

I originally wanted two dresses just because I loved two different styles (traditional, lace, fit and flare with train, low back, deep v-front vs a modern high neck halter crepe dress) but ended up loving my ceremony dress and didn't want the hassle of two dresses, a dress change, etc. Also our wedding is in late May, so we plan to duck out midway through our reception for sunset photos and I want to have my wedding dress on for all of my formal wedding photos, not a second more casual dress. I did buy an inexpensive shorter ivory dress I'm planning to wear to my rehearsal dinner that I could wear as a backup dress at the wedding reception itself if my first dress ends up damaged for any reason. I do think having a backup dress/outfit (be it a honeymoon dress or one already worn for a bridal shower or pre-wedding event) and shoes is a good idea, but don't think you need to spend a fortune on them.

Super cute. Love the jumpsuit and accessory ideas. I think if it makes you more comfortable, and can be done without spending a ton of money or adding a lot of stress or time, go for it.

I was chatting with my friend about her jumpsuit and she almost wishes she wore it for the ceremony itself. It was so her and SUPER cute! Do what makes you happy and you won't go wrong.

I think a lot of women do this. Your gorgeous dress can then be gently packed away, used for a different photo shoot, or you can even sell it when it is in good shape.

I am planning to change out into a more relaxed dress......

Good Luck and have fun planning your day!!
