Reception Do not play list

Amy, on August 26, 2019 at 5:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 12

My fiancé and I are going through different songs and are trying to think of ones to put on our DO NOT play list. Most of what we have are either songs we don't think are appropriate for a wedding or we have heard too much. (even though we may like some of the songs listed, we just do not want them played at our wedding). so far we have:

White Wedding: Billy Idol

Celebration: Kool & the Gang

We are Family: Sister Sledge

Shout: Isley Brothers

Stayin Alive: Bee Gees

Watch Me: Silento

Ice Ice Baby: Vanilla Ice

Play that Funky Music: Wild Cherry

You Give Love a Bad Name: Bon Jovi

My Heart will Go On: Celine Dion

Single Ladies: Beyoncé

Like a Virgin: Madonna

Blurred Lines: Robin Thicke

Who let the Dogs Out: Baha Men

Any other thoughts on songs that are played too much or should not be played at all?

Interesting, many of your "do not play" sings are commonly played at weddings because they get guests on the dance floor.

That we understand but these are songs we hear way too much and have plenty of other options to bring people on the dance floor

We actually played about half the songs on your list at our reception and our guests had a blast!
Our list had 1 song. I want it that way by the Backstreet Boys. As an avid BSB fan, I did not want this over played song played and it’s probably their most popular so it probably would have been played. As long as you communicate with your DJ about what kind of music you want played, I think the list you have is pretty sufficient . I don’t think it’s necessary to list every song you dislike, as long as you have a good DJ.

No rap AT ALL is our biggest thing. We hate it. NO beyonce for sure. No newer bubble gum pop stuff. We're classic rock, 80's and country

I hate a lot of Journey & REO Speedwagon. They are on my no play list.

Only things I can think of off the top of my head that you maybe didn’t think about are line dance type songs. Electric slide, chicken dance, Cupid shuffle. I know those are typically played and some people love them and some don’t. Just a thought!

Thousand years by Christina Perry! EVERYONE and their mom uses it for their wedding and I just CANNOT get on board with it. We also are avoiding country like the plague. 😂

No country music, no Michael Jackson, no line dances (but for the Cupid Shuffle). No Kanye West. No Kid Rock. We had a lot of Do Not Plays and we still got a lot of people on the dance floor!

No R. Kelly like above, No Chris Brown, no Post Malone, no rap pretty much, no Cardi B, no Old town road or Git up, and yes I agree no cheesy line dancing songs. I hatehatehate the electric slide because it feels like a 6 minute long dance and it's stupid. No Macarena or YMCA. Way overdone and I feel like this generation doesn't want to do these type songs anymore.
