Reception, disposables?

Hayley, on January 21, 2017 at 1:03 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I'm curious of those who are using disposable cups, glasses, flatware. Where are you purchasing? Clear, silver, white?!

I can't decide. It's so much cheaper to go disposable route especially through the people we plan to have cater. Yet part of the little girl in me, still pictures this great feast fit for a princess and a glass I can clink. If I go glass my caterer is bring it and if not I'll probably hit up my local dollar tree for everything they have. (Don't hate... Dollar Tree has great party stuff cheap)

Lol I know right! My venue owner made a good point about disposable causing more trash.. which is true but it's just so easy!

I think we will be using the plastic ware that looks silver and maybe some clear beverage ware for drinks. We haven't decided on what will use for cake. Our caterer is a food truck that will supply meals in the boxes (we're going super laid back vibe here) not sure if we want to have them serve food on plates (food is burgers/sandwiches and fries from The Habit Burger Grill) since it's a wedding lol

We're renting our flatware, china, and glassware for dinner and cocktail hour, but purchasing disposable glassware for the remaining beverages at the reception. Best of both worlds!

I haven't purchased yet, but smartyhasaparty.com have some quite nice plastic glassware.

I didn't go this route, but I've heard good things about smartyhadaparty and Costco.

I wanted rose gold silverware. Obviously plastic is more affordable. Got everything I needed on Amazon!

Please consider what you're serving to eat before selecting to use plastic - my aunt went to a wedding recently where they had plastic silverware - and then served steak... which was tough to chew, and even tougher to cut with a plastic fork and knife. Her husband almost chocked when he started chewing on a large chunk of beef when he got tired of trying to cut it with his crappy knife.

If you're serving food you could eat with plastic silverware - then that's one thing... if you're going to do plastic - I do support higher quality plastic if you can afford it.

Webstaurantstore.com is where were getting our plastic ware. We're getting enough for 110 guests & approximately 40-50 extra (just in case) for around $220. That includes:

    fork/knife/spoon, sturdy silver plastic.

    10" square dinner plates

6" square salad & dessert plates

    12oz plastic cups

    300 napkins

200 cups/lids for coffee & hot apple cider

    And I think that's it..

Shipping is super cheap and it ships fairly fast.

It's a PA based company, their store is called the Restaurant Store & it's where restaurants and companies go for restaurant quality things.. obviously

The plastic ware we're getting is exactly what our caterer offers (and more) and we're cutting out roughly $150 just by getting it ourselves

We're doing disposables since our venue is a "bring everything yourself" barn, and we were quoted $1000 for renting dishes. Crazy! So, fancy, heavy-duty disposables from Costco it is. We are also having an all-vegetarian, Mediterranean food buffet, so pastas, vegetable sides, rice, etc. Things that are easy to cut and won't present a problem for plastic cutlery.
