Reception Dinner

Catalena, on May 26, 2019 at 8:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

So we have decided that we want to do pulled pork BBQ as our main entree. But we are having problems deciding a vegan dish that works as a simple buffet type ordeal! Let me know if you have any ideas please Smiley amazing

What does your caterer offer? I’ve seen pulled jackfruit as a vegetarian substitution for pork. But I would also recommend having chicken as well because pork is one of those meats that a ton of people don’t eat for health or religious reasons.

We aren't hiring a caterer! We're cooking all the food ourselves to save money. My FH's side of the family is helping with it. And we'll start looking into some chicken ideas!

Grilled veggies like red onions, red peppers, zucchini? And maybe a separate corn salad dish? A fancy salad buffets is also good for everyone.

Most pasta noodles are vegan, make sure to read the packaging. You can whip up a batch of spaghetti with tomato, mushrooms, and even zucchini.

As a vegetarian I'd say to avoid substitutes. They will always be subpar. There are plenty of dishes that all your guests can enjoy. If you really want it to look like an equal try grilled, whole or thickly sliced potabellas which could be served on a bun (or on top of pork for others) w sauce on side. Many buns are accidently vegan but double check.

Even if you just give them a couple substantial sides to fill their plate it'll be better than they often are given. How about a black bean, corn, avocado type salad?...Or a bean and rice dish is a complete protein... A pasta dish with veggies and seared, marinaded tofu cubes..Or maybe a steamed endamane with sea salt or hummus appitizer...All these are proteins-- but remember even whole wheat and veggies have protein. I suggest looking for well reviewed recipes if these aren't things you are used to making.
