Reception Clean Up?

bitbit, on May 7, 2017 at 4:31 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 35

For those of you with a more DIY space, what are you doing about cleaning up after the reception? I'm having a hard time finding a company in my area that specializes in post-event/wedding clean up. Our catering company is going to handle most of the clean up but we are responsible for linens and whatever other decorations we bring. A place I worked for in the past would hire cleaning people off of Craigslist. Is that sketchy though?? There's also a FB group local to my area where people post odd jobs. I would just really prefer a professional though. What are you guys doing about cleaning up?

Our venue takes care of that, but I'd check into actual cleaning companies maybe? I could be wrong, but I'd think they would have some sort of contract that you could work out. I keep thinking merry maids, because they are local to me. Check Yelp maybe, and see if you have any luck. I'd get a contract though, so you won't be charged extra of the job isn't done. Good luck!

I was planning on coming back to do my own clean up (daytime wedding, over by 4pm and have to have the hall cleaned before the morning) but my family is saying they will take care of it. I'm either going to have to hire a company or tell them I did and take care of it myself.

We cleaned up ourselves because we were responsible for the key and wanted the heavy cleaning deposit back. :-)

It sounds like your caterer is going to handle cleanup. If I read correctly, your issue seems to be with decor and linens? Take your decorations with you or throw them away (whatever your prefer).

Do you have to have the linens professionally cleaned before returning them? If so, I'd probably consider finding another company that will clean them when I return them or you can take them to a dry cleaners.

I am hoping people take the flowers home with them. Everything else cleaning wise is handled by the venue.

Ask the venue for advice. My DOC has people who will help- for an extra cost.

We will be packing up all of our stuff after the reception but the bartenders have been paid to actually clean the reception hall afterwards.

@FutureMrs Yeah, it's mostly just packing up decorations. The linens don't need to be cleaned. I want to be able to leave with everyone to go to the after party and would prefer to just hire someone to pack everything up.

@Karen, that's a good idea. I'm going to call the venue to see if anyone has the hall booked on that Sunday.

I bet a coordinator could help but I also think craigslist might have help.

DOC for sure. Our venue offered a clean up package for cheap. So we jumped at that.

The caterer is taking care of food clean up. I was just going to ask if they'd put all my tablecloths and decor into my Rubbermaid totes I'm bringing them in for a little extra (it's only 12 tables) and then I can swing by the next morning and pick everything up on the way home. Can't hurt to ask your caterers.

DH and I (and our parents) went back the next day to collect the decorations and stuff that we brought. The reception hall required we hire a professional cleaning service to clean the hall. Catering took care of anything they brought to the venue.

Definitely find someone reputable and trustworthy to do this since your name is the one on those contracts.

I'm having the same issue! Everyone has to be out by 10, and clean up goes to 11. I need to look into this, thanks!
