Reception and Ceremony in the Same Room

I didn't choose the venue, but one of my options did need the room rearranged, so they suggested my guests left for half an hour. That's one of the reasons we didn't decide on that venue.

We went to a wedding last April where the ceremony/reception were in the same room. However, they did flip it.

Our rain plan would require a flip. Venues are usually great about it and honestly I think it's nicer than having everything set up. It feels nice to enter the reception space as if it's new with a new feeling. Gets everyone into party mode!

My cousin did it a few years ago. Everything was all set up and we sat at the tables for the ceremony. It just didn't feel like a wedding to me.

My aunt got married when she was older. They split the room down the middle so the dance floor was in the middle and that is where she walked down the aisle. We just sat at our reception tables.

We are having the ceremony in the same room. The chairs will be set up on the dance floor with an aisle for us to walk down. The venue said it takes the staff, at most, 5 minutes to move all of the chairs back to the tables. At this time, people usually have guests go outside (it's under a canopy) to replicate when the couple walks out of the church and people throw rice or whatnot. But I don't want to deal with that hassle so on our website I said that people can go to the bar, get their escort cards and kid's activity bags, and use the photo booth while they move the chairs. I'm slightly worried but they do it all the time so they know how to get it done right. At the end of the day, having guests get up for 5 minutes to get drinks or their escort cards is a LOT less inconvenient than having them drive 30+ minutes from a church.

But we are having a very formal wedding. I'm not sure how a carnival theme should go into a wedding, but if that's what you want then okay.

Everything is in our one location. We are going to pre-set the tables, but push them to the side, then during cocktail hour/photos the tables get pushed back in their spot and the benches get placed. They do it this way for each wedding. The staff have it down pat.

I am really not worried about it. I am having less than 40 guests so in the 60 mins that is cocktail hour I am feeding them, doing photos, they can use the restroom, and start drinking.

I am having them both in the same room...no flipping to be done.

My ceremony and reception are in the same room. the flip will occur during the cocktail hour, since the cocktail hour will be either outside, or in a different room in the event of rain. If you need to have the room flipped, you should consider having everyone leave for, it could be a good way for photos, etc.

My venue is kind of like this. We have the ceremony in like a promenade area that is Parisian themed. Then we leave to do pictures, whatever while the guests enjoy a cocktail hour. We have the same promenade area for hanging out, buffets, cake tables, etc. for the reception and then the ballroom for the ball/dancing area/dinner. So they will have to convert our ceremony area into a reception setting in like an hour or so (which is mainly just moving the chairs and dragging out the tables to put food on). Should be fine.

Same location. At an arboretum. No staff, just rental of the rustic building. There is a huge wraparound deck attached overlooking the valley where we'll have the ceremony, and people will have use of that and the inside for the reception (as well as use of the entire arboretum, including gardens, trails, pond, etc.). Praying for good weather! Depending on how many attend, our back-up plan is at the church/community room (down the street) where my FH pastors.

Thanks, everyone! I feel much more confident about having to make the flip. And it's true that going outside for a little bit is much more convenient than driving across town, I didn't think about it that way. And our wedding is going to be semi-formal. We just want it to be a fun time for our friends and family, but we aren't going to go overboard with it. We are both young and in college so we figured it would be better to do something fun now and then in the future we can do a very formal anniversary party when we have more money and are older.

We are getting married in the same room and requiring a flip. There is a bar and restaurant with a patio we will use for cocktail hour. I will also set up lawn games outside and am having a magician put on a show for the kids (to ensure they're not running wild for the hour). We are doing pictures during that time. I've been to a few wedding that did it this way. It's never been a bother and always worked out well! You should be fine to do a flip!
