Reception Activities

Molly, on October 19, 2020 at 4:52 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18

Hey everyone! With all the new rules and regulations for weddings receptions are looking pretty different now. I want to try and compile a list of fun activities for wedding receptions, since most states are not allowing good old fashion dancing.

Comment below with your favorite reception activities to keep guest entertained!

I'll start with my favorite, the shoe game!

Our was wedding was last year so pre-Covid, but we had a trivia game at ours. All guests received a questionnaire with questions about us as a couple like each one of our favorite colors (they had to know at least one), where we met, etc. Then they came on to the dance floor and the DJ read the question and if they got the answer wrong they went back to their seats. The last ten people got prices. It was fun to see how well everyone knows us.

We wanted to do something other than the shoe game since both of our brothers were doing it at their weddings and they got married the same year us. My husband came up with the idea.

I actually went to a wedding last year that didn't have a dance floor or dancing. they filled up the four hour reception time by having a photobooth, having a table people can write down their bucketlist/date ideas for them and they had this newlywed mad libs book that went around.

it was like "do not have arguments when ______" that was cute actually aha because people wrote really dirty things ahaha,

Our wedding is outside at a shuffleboard club with a large grassy area, so we are thinking of a whole lawn games theme. In addition to shuffleboard, we are thinking some of these: horseshoes, cornhole, ladder toss, croquet, bocce ball, etc. We love live team trivia so I'm also thinking about a trivia game.

In addition to dancing, we plan on having lawn games and are also doing a trivia game. We will have a list of trivia questions about my fiance and I (such as, "how many dresses did the bride try on total?", "what is the groom's favorite style of beer?", "where did the bride and groom go on their first date?", etc). Guests will have from the start of cocktail hour until after dinner to fill out their answers, and the winner at each table gets a prize.

At my wedding we didn't have any group dancing. So instead we had toasts and speeches after dinner (which I was not expecting anyone to write a speech, but lots of people did 🥰 which luckily took up lots of the time!) And then we had our first dance, and then played the shoe game!!! After all of that people just ate our delicious desserts and mingled with each other, and then the reception was over. 😊

As a guest, if there is no dancing, I love chatting with other guests.

We were pre-COVID, and had dancing, but, uh, we also had that swordfight thing.

    So, if you're performance inclined...

    Have a show!

That sounds nice! I was shocked my how many people wanted to make speeches at my wedding to. It's wonderful to hear just how much you and your husband mean to everyone. It was one of my favorite parts of my wedding day.

That is cool! My sister is getting married next year and she is big in to theater and so are most of the guests, so I can only imagine what they will do.

Yes us too!!!! Our best man wrote the most amazing speech about my husband and the look on my husband's face during the speech was so heartwarming and touching, it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the day!
