Reception 1 Year later?

Anne, on July 30, 2018 at 11:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Hello! I thought I saw a thread about this and cannot find it now so I apologize if this is a duplicate thread. My fiancé and I had a bit of drama thrown our way and some unforeseen expenses to boot which have made us feel we have to potentially postpone our wedding plans. But we don’t want to wait to get married! Would it be weird to elope and then hold a reception the following year? The thought is we would go on a vacation to a destination and elope just the two of us and send out save the dates for the reception/after party for the following year on our 1 year anniversary. Weird or acceptable?

I think that is perfectly acceptable as long as you keep your guests well informed that it is not a wedding, but a celebration of marriage. I have heard of quite a few couples doing this Smiley smile

Totally acceptable! Call it a wedding reception or if you want to do the ceremony, it’s a vow renewal. Even if a reception, feel free to wear your wedding dress, have a cake, first dance, whateves! Smiley cake

We have had this same exact problem. And I asked this same question (here & to coworkers, friends & family) the answer all around the board is its perfectly common. So this is what we've opted to do as well. Good luck with the new plan changes and congratulation!

Hi Anne! Of course this is acceptable! It’s very common! I am actually starting to see this happen more frequently!

Totally acceptable if you're content with doing it! before marriage for all was enacted, a lesbian coworker of mine married in the closest state where it was legal, and intended to have their "wedding" in NY when it became legal, which it did before the rest of the country. it was an awesome idea!

You could hold a vow renewal a year later, or a 1 year anniversary party if you don't want to do traditional wedding stuff and just have a party!
