WOW.....that is beautiful. You stated that she passed before you met FH. How long has she been gone? Is it someone in the family carrying on her tradition or wishes for you & your fan to receive gifts and cards from her? That is awesome.

I haven't received anything, but since my mom passed in Sept of 2015, I have started a email account and given my daughter the login info. I have given her instructions not to login until I am gone. I have been sending her random emails. One for her wedding day, for they day she finds out she is pregnant, for the birth of her first child, for days when she is feeling blah.....just really random stuff.

Wow, thats amazing! It wasnt exactly handed down, but my mother passed away when I was in middle school, and since she had a wide wedding band, we decided to have it cut down the middle, and use the halves as our wedding bands.

Wow, what a fantastic idea (and one I'm going to remember as I hit my twilight years and the grandkids and great grandkids aren't yet married. Family treasures chosen for each one, boxed, wrapped, with a card attached, and waiting for the right moment.

What a fabulous woman. You are fortunate.

    *welp* this made me cry.

I haven't personally had anything like this happen to me, but I've helped orchestrate it. I would help hospice patients fill out cards and letters for upcoming holidays/birthdays for close family members that the person knew they would not be around for. They would address the card on the outside, I would mark it in my calendar and send it off the week of their birthday.

OK, to lighten the mood: One NYE when I was a kid, our parents dropped off the 5 of us at our grandparents house so they could babysit us. At midnight, G'ma gave me an old aluminum pot to beat on with a spoon. Well, I went at it with gusto wanting people far away to hear my racket. I caved in the bottom of the pot! G'pa hammered it out afterward, but the poor little pot was never the same. G'ma laughed and said I'd get it for a wedding present some day. Sure enough, she gave me that pot, with a note, when I got married. It is hanging on the wall in my kitchen!

My grandmother got all the grandchildren gifts; we had pizza with just our parents and grandma and she gave them to us with instructions that my mom had to save them until our wedding day.

My mother passed when I was 11 almost 12. We had a "housekeeper" who was my Aunts Sister in Law for several years. For my shower I got a patch quilt that she made with scraps my aunt gave to her. The back is teal which is the color for ovarian cancer, she was fighting stage 4 when she made the quilt for me. She was unable to come to the shower or wedding, but I went to see her to personally thank her for it. It had a note that it was probably the last quilt she ever made while battling cancer. She has since passed, and I will treasure it forever.

I honestly don't even remember how long she's been gone. DH and I started dating in July 2013, so I know she passed before that. I want to say she's been gone for about 5 years now. I'm pretty sure my one aunt on that side of the family is the one who was holding onto this, because she has a bunch of other stuff from Great Grandma - she gave me a Thanksgiving platter that used to belong to her last summer. Receiving this from her was so unexpected though!

What touching stories you guys have too! <3

That is wonderful-- like everyone else, I'm tearing up! My grandma set aside some money for birthday gifts for me for 10 years after she passed, but my mom always wrote out the card and check. I would just love to see my grandma's handwriting again and read her own words, especially for this occasion. What a fantastic treasure you have.
