Reasonable time for Etsy vendors to reply?

A.L.S., on February 6, 2017 at 3:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I messaged this shop Thursday and still no reply. It's for our cake topper and the shop has good reviews .

    What are you asking them?

It's still 8 months until your wedding. People go on vacation, have things pop up in their personal lives, get in car accidents, etc. I'd say give it a couple of weeks and then follow up.

    Edit to clarify

I messaged a vendor about a cake topper in November. Just to ask if something could be custom made. No answer. I asked again 2 weeks ago thinking maybe they didn't get it. Still no answer. I guess they didn't want my business

Yes I'm not getting married for 8 mos , but this shop is in another country and their turn around time is a minimum of 8 weeks . I've never had a Etsy shop take more than 2 days to reply .

I'd look for another shop, especially with it being overseas. If it's a minimum of 8 weeks it could actually take a whole lot longer and if they aren't answering your initial question promptly, they probably won't answer other questions promptly either.

ETA: I've always received replies within 2 days

@angela that's what I was thinking as well. This cake topper is perfect but I'll see if I can find someone else in the states to do something similar .

    I've waited two weeks.

If it's longer than than that, no go.

But it definitely sounds like you should find someone else! ETA words are hard

Some shops will tell you if they are on a break or vacation. But I agree, maybe try to find someone in the states to do it.

Two weeks sounds like an awful long time to wait for a response. I usually give people 5 business days before I follow up with them, unless it's more urgent obviously.

I'd reach out to a different seller if they don't respond in a couple days OP! Something definitely could've come up in their personal life so keep that in mind too.

Okay I'll try messaging them instead of the ask a question option

For professional businesses, 1-3 business days is a pretty reasonable expected response time. Personally, I would typically give it a week before following up unless my request was urgent.

Etsy, on the other hand, is not a website of professional businesses. It's hobbyists and crafters and dabblers. You can't hold that segment to the same professional standards to which actual professionals are held.

I've always heard back within a day, but they may be on vacation. Give it a week or two then search elsewhere.

    Try someone else!

I bet there are other more reliable sellers on Etsy that can do the same thing!

Does it say anything in the shop notes, like if she is on vacation or taking a break to get current orders out? If not, I would take my business elsewhere. There are tons of other sellers on etsy who are capable of making something custom.

So if you have already paid then there is a way to open a case with etsy to disput and retrieve the money (I did this once and the shop responded in 20mins and sent the item overnight shipping)

If you haven't gotten a response then just find someone in the states to do it because 2 months processing time seems excessive to me for any etsy item
