Reason you chose your wedding date?

First off, I'm brand new to this site. And secondly, this site is a GODSEND!!!! Okay, so I know there are many people out there who have chosen their wedding date for various special reasons. I'm curious as to what they are. Me? Well, June 19th of next year is Father's Day. My own father passed away...

Okay, so I know there are many people out there who have chosen their wedding date for various special reasons. I'm curious as to what they are.

Me? Well, June 19th of next year is Father's Day. My own father passed away when I was 14 1/2. I'm a few months shy of 30 now, but his death sometimes feels like it still happened yesterday. We were really close, and his sudden passing seriously affected me. It's because of him that I'm able to afford my dream wedding (won't go into details), and I feel sad that he's not going to be there for anything. Seeing as how close we were, I wanted to pick a date that really meant something. I looked at the calendar for next year, and right away, June 19th stuck out. Father's Day. Really, I couldn't think of a more perfect way to honor him and thank him for all that he has done for me. (I'm getting teary eyed as I finish typing this)

We wanted to have the wedding in July because that is when people have vacation, but not too late in July because it gets very hot in Tel Aviv. Weddings can only happen on weekdays or Friday morning here so Thursday night is the best night to have a wedding since people don't have to go to work the next day. So, that's how we ended up with the first Thursday in July!

We wanted either May or October, those are generally my favorite months in terms of weather and temperature. My BFF is getting married in October so we went with May 21. I didn't want to do Memorial Day weekend so we opted for the weekend before, hoping it will be reasonably warm but not scorching Smiley smile

We chose our date because it was the closest weekend date to when he asked me (4th of Jul) and in two years so we have enough time to get everything done and still pay for a mortgage and feed children. LOL

I completely understand about your father. Mine died suddenly 11 years ago, and there are times where it feels like it was yesterday. I wish he could be there to give me away, but I'm going to have my son do it. I'm thinking for my 'something blue' or 'something old' of asking my step-mom if she has any of Dad's old dress shirts. I'm thinking about cutting out a heart shaped piece, embroidering his name on it, along with his birth and death year, and sewing it into the bottom of my dress. I'll admit I saw this somewhere, and it made me choke up so bad when I saw it.

It was available at our church and our venue and seemed far enough away that we could make it work.

We chose January because it was far enough away that my fh didn't have a panic attack. Also I really wanted a winter wonderland theme, blue and silver with lots of lights and bling. I wanted indoor. I don't like outdoor weddings in Oregon, its either too hot or it rains. Its windy and I don't like bugs. I knew my wedding had to be indoor. First I picked 1-16-16. I loved the ring to the date. We had to change to Friday so its 01-15-16.

10/10/15. We originally wanted to get married in September, but my job is heavily based on quarters. End of Q3 is September 30th, so I didn't want to get married, go on a honeymoon, and then come back to end of Q3 to deal with. And we originally wanted 10/3/15, but that was not available at the first venue we booked...So we went with 10/10 which is an easy date to remember. Maybe not super romantic, but it works for us.

And welcome. Sorry to hear about your dad.

Honestly, I opened up my planner and looked at Saturdays. I just had a good feeling about two weekends: Oct 15, 2016 and August 19, 2017. FH thought 10/15/2016 was too close, so we went with 8/19/2017. Waiting sucks, but the added bonus of saving a bunch of money and not having to sacrifice anything to have the wedding of our dreams is great.

We considered a lot of dates before choosing ours. I wanted a spring or fall wedding, but fall is football season and since we got engaged in March, it'd either be a short or longer engagement. Plus this fall I have 2 weddings to attend already, and there are so many Jewish holidays in the fall. Looking at next spring, we ran into Passover, basketball playoffs, and then price increases for peak season. So we started looking at Sundays of long weekends... and turns out President's Day Sunday is Valentine's Day. Definitely did not intend to get married on Valentine's Day, but it's saving us a lot of money and doesn't interfere with any holidays or sports!

We got engaged in March (on the 1-year anniversary of when we met).

We wanted our wedding to be after it cooled down a little bit and before tourist season started, so we decided on October.

We chose 10/3 because that year it was Sweetest Day. When we told our Best Man, he said "That's my date." So, we chose the following Saturday, 10/10. BM came back from his honeymoon in time to be at our wedding. And we got to borrow the potted plants they had used for their wedding!

Pretty much the same as Maggie-

My fiance wanted the Spring so it wouldn't be too hot. I wanted Summer because I'm a teacher.

We compromised with a venue that has AC and the first weekend after school gets out. We wanted the Saturday (6/25/16) but the venue was already booked for Saturday so we went with Friday, June 24, 2016. :-)
