Really Old/cliche First Dance Song?

So my FH and I don't have "a song" for our relationship and have been talking about our first dance song with no real starting points. FH brought up "Can't help falling in love" by Elvis. We both love the song and it really does fit us and how our relationship started, but we feel weird being a young couple going with an old and incredibly cliche first dance song. One idea we've had is using a cover that maybe updates the song a little bit, but we still aren't sure.

What would you do? Or what would you think as a guest?

Like what PP said, it's a good song (seriously, who doesn't love Elvis??). My cousin had an actual Elvis impersonator at his wedding, and that was pretty funny!
I had a hard time figuring out our first song too; we have no song we're both connected to. I really wanted to do an anime song from a romance anime I like, but people wouldn't understand the words and whatnot. So, I decided to go with a song I've liked for a long time from my childhood. Played it for FH, and he likes it too!
I remember seeing "Yanni: Live in Acropolis" and "Riverdance" waaaayyyyy back as a little kid in the 90s. Loved it all, and I'm 26 now! So, I decided on Yanni's "Reflections of Passion," which is a beautiful piano piece he composed. My parents requested "Little Less Conversation (Little More Action, Please)" by Elvis as well, and I said yes!

Lots of wedding songs become cliche because a lot of people use them. If you love that song, use it. I guarantee you know one will be thinking that deeply about it and will be focusing on how happy you both look together. Most people won’t even remember what song you used. It only matters to the 2 of you. Besides, that song is a classic and classics never go out of style.

At the end of the day, it only matters if you guys like it. No one is going to make snide remarks if your song is "old" or "cliché." A nice song is a nice song, and if you two like it, that's what's important.

That is one of our considerations as well, so I understand the appeal!

My friends had this as “their song” but they usually went with the 21 pilots cover which is actually amazing. Not sure if they will play it at their wedding but I imagine they will.

Do what you're most comfortable with and what makes sense for the both of you. It is a bit cliche, but hey who cares? It's your wedding. As long as you and your FH are happy and satisfied with your decision that's all that matters. And there are tons of awesome covers for that song if you do end up going that route, BTW. 😉

It’s ELVIS! You can’t go wrong with the King. We were just married in HI on 4/7 and we danced to that classic song as well!

My FH and I are considering a song by Al Green. I think if an older song is what you want, then you should go for it. No shame here! I look at it this way...the older folkes at your wedding will say, "Hey, these kids have good taste!" Smiley smile

I love Ingrid Michaelson's version of that song if you're considering using a cover! But I agree even if you use the original, I don't think anyone will find it weird. Personally I like the idea of using a classic song a lot better than a current, super popular song that everyone is sick of.

FH and I are early 20s and we'll be dancing to an instrumental version of "Can't Help Falling in Love." I don't think anyone will think that song is "too old." As a guest, I would just be relieved it wasn't a country song.

I love the classic song, but I love the UB40 version as well. Maybe it's cuz I'm a child of the 80s!

Just go with the song you want. Who cares what others think!

If you two like that song, do it! It's a great first dance song and as a guest, I'd think it's really sweet.

I love elvis and wanted a classic song. We are doing cant help falling in love but my fiance prefers the Hailey Reinhardt cover so we are using that instead. Just think of it as classic instead of cliche. That song will never go out of style.
