Really Old/cliche First Dance Song?

A.Magill.Since.May, on April 13, 2018 at 9:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 42

So my FH and I don't have "a song" for our relationship and have been talking about our first dance song with no real starting points. FH brought up "Can't help falling in love" by Elvis. We both love the song and it really does fit us and how our relationship started, but we feel weird being a young couple going with an old and incredibly cliche first dance song. One idea we've had is using a cover that maybe updates the song a little bit, but we still aren't sure.

What would you do? Or what would you think as a guest?

Nobody will think about whether the song is cliche. They’ll be focused on you two as a new married couple. It’s a good song!

I like the song. The Haley Reinhardt cover is pretty popular but I like elvis’s too. I don’t think it matters how old the song is: your age. I’ve been to some weddings where it’s clear the song is meaningful to the couple.

There is an absolutely amazing redo of Can't help falling in love by Pentatonix. It's so fun and beautiful.

We did an "old song", La Vie En Rose, as our first dance and no one expected it but it was short and sweet and perfect for us.

We're definitely aiming at short, since neither of us are big about being the center of attention and we aren't big dancers. The current idea is to dance by ourselves for 30 seconds then have our parents and grandparents join us, hopefully prompting others onto the dance floor!

I don’t think it matters at all! If you love it, go for it! I love the song. A few of our options (have t narrowed it down yet) are pretty old as well.

Not weird at all. We're thinking of doing a song from the 60s/70s as well.

I mean that's our first dance song and I'm 25/he's 28. Soooo. I dont really understand why it would be frowned upon by anyone? You do you girl! I am widely nontraditional, but cliche is cliche for a reason 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don’t think it’s cliche, I love that song. There are also a lot of great covers of it if you did want to change it up a bit.

It's a cliche for a reason and there's nothing wrong with that. If you like it, use it!

That was our first dance song. We had a band perform it and about 30 seconds into it we had the bandleader invite everyone to join us. It was one of my favorite memories of my wedding. Here's a guest's video of part of it.

Ours was "Say you say me"From Lionel Richie. I always knew that I wanted this song as 1st dance for my wedding since it was my parents first song.I wish us 30 and more years of marriage like them. No matter the song old or new believe me the emotion will be there! It's your wedding you should choose the song that you want.

I’d say it’s classic over cliche! I’d rather hear this than like an overdone recent song.

I love that song!! We might use it for our first dance since we don’t really have “our song” it’s so romantic and classic without being stiff or too traditional.

That song is beautiful and if you both like it go for. When it comes to music age has no limit. I'm in my 20s and everyone I know that's my age listen's to Elvis. If I went to a wedding and the couple chose the song I'd think they appreciate music and are a fun loving couple.

FH and I are 32, and we are dancing to 'stand by me' by the drifters. Talk about way out of our age range! Lol
I think what you guys picked is a good song! Whatever you choose will be great!
