Real vs. Fake Pros and Cons

Madelaine, on February 17, 2018 at 2:07 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 43

I'm trying to decide on my wedding flowers. Ladies, can you help me decide the pros and cons of real and fake flowers? Thanks! Which did YOU go with? Any regrets?

Personally, I’m a fan of silk flowers! It’s really up to you what you like!

Both look pretty. I think it’s a matter of a personal choice.

I'm not a huge fan of fake unless you buy the really high end ones. The greenery usually fall really short of something that looks authentic. Fake does let you diy your flowers weeks in advance though.

I'm going to use sola flowers. I love the idea of keeping them forever. though I'm uncrafty so it's going to be a challenge lol

Why not mix both? You can get 50 roses from Costco for $39.99 (or sam's etc), by some silk fillers and flowers that are maybe out of season and expensive if real. Boom! Beautiful bouquet. I'm doing a mix of both. Check out https://youtu.be/hXy_R7dM6qY Tayra Perez does awesome , diy flowers and centerpieces. Her videos are great.

I’m happily going with these silk flowers. I didn’t officially arrange them yet, but I’m very happy with how the colors go together and will be adding some lace flowers from my grandmothers wedding dress. After the wedding, I will use them as a centerpiece in our home. I personally feel the real flowers are a waste. I’ve heard lots of stories of real flowers falling apart and wilting during the ceremonies and since my wedding is in August I think silk flowers are the way to go.

We are doing a combination of using both fake and real flowers for our wedding to save on costs.

We are doing fake flowers. But I also know flowers are something I don't truly care if they look average or amazing. So I wasn't willing to spend hundreds on them. We got ours from amazon and I already made the bouquets and boutineurs. I do like the option of keeping my bouquet forever which you can't do the same with real.

I am doing both fake and real. All of our centerpieces have faux rose flowers from Michael's. Our bouquets and guys flowers will be real.
Go to craft store and see what they have and sample some flowers together and see what you like.
Cost wise it really helps cuz the fake flowers, vases, Styrofoam all came out to under 200 bucks (sales and coupons rock!) And our other flowers will be just under 100 bucks.
    Hope that helps

Fake for me. I love them. 😊 I received them in less than a week after ordering, without paying any rush charges.

I’m doing fake silk flowers because 1. I want to keep them forever and 2. I want a lot of tropical and unusual flowers that simply aren’t available in this part of the country and the time frame for shipping would make them too expensive and they wouldn’t be as fresh-looking as the silk alternatives.

Mixing both is a great idea. However, I really love real flowers for bouquets. I will mix real and fake for centerpieces and have real flowers for me and my ladies. I will probably go on the smaller side to save $. The guys will be wearing roses. Have to decide on the remaining flowers. Contemplating a beach wedding, if so, I will have florist design something like this for me. The holder is not sea shell, but glass.

Keep in mind if you are doing diy if you use Real you will be putting them together the day before or morning of the wedding. With silk you can do it ahead of time.

I’ll be honest - I’m not a flower person. I’m doing fake because I feel bad paying for real flowers that are used for only a couple of hours and I have such bad allergies, I don’t want to worry about that. Also, the cost. I got me and my girls bouquets (7 bridesmaids) pre-made at Michaels for under $60! I’m not crafty but if I hadn’t found them, I was planning to make them with my super crafty BFF.

I also like the look of fake flowers - I love Sola wood flowers but they were a little more than I wanted to spend!

I prefer fakr, because it's a money saved, and can be put in a vase and reused as decor.
I love the way real flowers smell. But I also have an allergy and don't want to be puffy eyed on my wedding day.
I got these two for my bridesmaids at Michaels.

The majority of my bridal party has allergies so we decided to do real touch for our ceremony. They are coming along beautifully. We also really want to have real flowers on display. We decided to use them at some of our reception tables. So I am a fan of the mixed idea. Remember that real flowers cannot be done to far in advance. Also, depending on the flower a real flower wedding can be very costly.

I thought about using artificial flowers for the bouquets at the venue but I am going to go for real flowers. I think they will be prettier and worth the price. To cut costs I am going to order flowers and greenery in bulk and have myself, my aunts and bridesmaids will create the flower arrangements. But in the end this is just a suggestion and it’s totally up to you.
