Hi everyone,
So I am having an issue deciding to use real plate or disposable for my wedding. It is stressing me out because to use real plates I'm looking to add on about 1,400 (not including extra gratuity charges) to the cost of my caterer. To me it does't seem like it is worth it to spend that much money on something that people are going to eat off of once. But, I dont want my wedding to seem tacky if I use disposables. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point. Here are some facts about my wedding:we will be serving normal wedding food ( baked chicken and beef tips), our reception hall is nice and new but not overly fancy, we have a guest count of around 200, and I am for the most part paying for the wedding by my self. What do you think?

If you are going with disposable, you have to be more careful with menu. Some foods are tough to cut on even good plastic plates. I think baked chicken can be tough, beef tips and fish (say salmon fine). I would work with caterer, can they come up with chicken easier to cut.

And please, no nice person will complain, but it is not a semi formal wedding with disposable plates.

Lionsdeal.com is another restaurant supplier site with really good deals! We bought our wedding flatware from there

I’ve been to many weddings with the hard plastic disposables. They actually feel nice and can be very pretty! They make nice plastic silverware too. I highly doubt it would even cost a a fraction of $1,400. I would recommend seeing if you could recycle them though, if you care about that sort of thing. I always lean towards practicality, so that’s my vote!

I'm using disposables as well. The ones I'm getting are durable plastic but they look just like real dinnerware. They even sell cases of like 200 dishes for like $40, so this is waaay more economical, than spending $3 a plate. Plus with this way, if gets want seconds, they can just dispose and get another plate, instead of reusing the same one.

I am using disposable because that's what my caterer provides. I wouldn't spend the extra.

And what do you think about using customized china plates? I mean your name, date, etc. painted on the plates. In this way, you can have the set forever.
