What are everyone's thoughts on cloth napkins with plastic plates and utensils?

That's what I was afraid of. We're using nicer disposables and they look like a real plate but at the end of the day it's still plastic. There really isn't a place to rinse the plates so real dinnerware would be a pain I think.

I think it would be weird to have plastic utensils and cloth napkins

I would go for high-quality linen-like paper napkins.

I have honestly never been to a wedding that used disposable silverware, tableware, or glasses. Kinda nuts to me...

We did regular napkins and paper plates, but nice ones, we are doing burlap and lace theme on them. Ordered from Oriental Trading marriage section.

I'd try to get non-disposable napkins and utensils. If one has to be disposable I'd rather the napkins be disposable and the plates and utensils not be.

I just imagine someone trying to cut their steak and breaking their fork.. I have a strong grip and broke my plastic fork on pasta the other day. Lol.

Haha @haley don't worry that wouldn't happen. We're having BBQ so no cutting involved really.

I hate disposable. The stuff that looks real may look real, but it feels cheap. I don't want to relate my wedding with 'cheap'.

I personally would never have plastic at a wedding. For many Caterers I've looked at I think it is an extra 3-3.5 pp to have real china, glassware, and silverware, plus fees for an extra server and a busser. So worth it!

Caterers should be prepared in some way to handle the dirty dishes, that is what they do.

ETA I can't spell on this darn phone ...

@Kristin yeah I have a caterer. The location is in a barn so there's no kitchen space.

I work for a rental company (unfortunately no where close to my wedding and when I bring up renting items my boss basically ignores me) so I know what a pain it is to have things come back dirty. Which shouldn't be my concern but some places charge cleaning fees when items come back dirty and I'd rather avoid added charges.

I vote no on the plastic. The caterer should have a way to deal with the lack of sink.

I'm not so sure on this whole thing about it being the caterer's job per se. My caterer provides disposables, that's it. But that's because they do barbecue and weddings are a small portion of what they do. I'm at the point of considering buying eighth sheet pans from a restaurant supply store or just going with the disposable plates. But that's the difference between spending $200 and spending nothing on plates...

I have rented china, flatware and glasses and never had to rinse anything. The servers scraped off the plates and stacked them, and placed the glasses and flatware in the racks and back they go.

Even if you choose to stick with the disposables, I would use fabric napkins. BBQ melts through paper napkins, and presumably your guests will have nice clothes to protect.

I think as long as it was the nice, thick plastic disposables that look like the real deal it would be fine

Either get paper napkins or get real silverware.
