Real life wedding nightmare

Brittany, on April 2, 2019 at 9:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Get guys. This is a bit of a hard post to make but I think it is important. My husband is a former missionary who spent a lot of time in India so we decided to have our small wedding in the rural village my husband used to live in. At first everything was perfect. We had our closest friends and my mother and sister and law and we were all set. We stayed at a little hotel which was the only one in the town and had no access to stores except some small local shops. We were basically stuck with whatever we brought. Here's where it gets bad. At 3:00 in the morning the night before our wedding, we here gunshots at night. 3 men with guns barged in and started looking our rooms. My fiancee was sleeping in a different bedroom and the girls were sleeping in one side of the hotel because we wanted to surprise him with my dress on our wedding day. The three guys quickly took almost everything and put it in like six garbage bags. My phone and camera were taken but the thing that stung the most was losing my wedding dress. The robbers took all of our clothes, jewelry, and makeup and left before my fiancee and his friends could get there. I broke down in tears and was inconsolable for the rest of the night. In the morning my fiancee proposed that we carry on the wedding and have a proper one later. The bridesmaids agreed to this despite being stuck in their nighttime clothes. I eventually agreed and we carried on as we were going too. Long story short, it was a horrible experience.

That will be hard to forget. Hugs to you!
I hope you get your special day back, by having a ceremony at a later date.

The life of a missionary can be perilous. I had a friend who was at a party in a small village where guns where drawn and shot.
I am not minimizing your experience, just sympathizing.

All you can do is reflect that it could have been worse and carry on.

My wedding ring was stolen years ago. It was very sentimental to me as it was the ring my mom was married in to my father (who died when I was young). I was heart broken, but also realized--which would I rather still have, the ring or my husband. Perspective helps.

Cherish your husband, your family and your friends, the rest is all just material objects.

PS, I hope you got pictures of your wedding party in their nightgowns.

I'm so sorry about your wedding ring! We took very few pictures because we looked a mess by the time of the wedding but we do have one nice picture of me and the bridesmaids in our nightgowns. Lucky for me the nightgown I was wearing was white so I could have some kind of a bridal look lol.

Omg I am so sorry this happened to you!!! I originally thought you were telling a story about a nightmare you had. I’m glad you are all safe. It’s horrible that they took your stuff but I am happy you all still have your lives!

Just think of the stories you can dine out on in the years to come.

Don't mind me, I always try to put a positive spin on things. My family calls me a Pollyanna, but after 63 years of living, my motto will always be "It could have been worse"

Seriously, you are going to have your ups and downs dealing with this, but we are all rooting for you.
