Real candles or LED votives for tables??

Lauren, on February 16, 2015 at 12:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I can't decide...we want 4 votive candles around out centerpieces, but I'm not sure if I should do LED votives or real. What are you ladies doing? LEDs will be more expensive, but they won't burn out like real candles. I dunno- FH says we should just do real and call it a day!

I would have done real if I was allowed. We went the LED route, but I shopped on Amazon and got decent prices (maybe $80 for 96 LEDs and 72 frosted votives?) so they're not too expensive. Still, real is probably fine, and most of the votives are 10 hours. Unless your wedding is three days long, I don't think you'll have a problem.

I would love to do real, but our venue doesn't allow it. So I wont do any at all.

I bought LED's on clearance at afloral.com. I think I got 255 for around $50. The only problem I have is that I don't like the color of the light. I am putting yellow tissue paper over the tops of them to give them a more natural glow. The candle holders are not see through so no one will see the tissue paper.

I purchased all our real votives at Michael's using a coupon. They were basic candles in clear glass holders. Packs of 12. Link to the white candles is below. (We used ivory but I could not find those online)

Our dinner reception was > 4 hours long. They were still burning at the end of the night.

My family is accident prone so I would go with LED candles. My aunt accidentally started a fire at her granddaughter's bridal shower because of the candle centerpieces. I wouldn't want to take that risk at my wedding.

I'd do real. even my florist was like, 'yeah... led lights just don't have the same effect at all. we allow real candles, you should do real candles.' haha.

Use real if you know they will not get knocked over! even a votive can get flipped if a table is rattled hard enough.

We are putting LED waterproof lights in our vases filled with water beads. We would probably do something different if we were able to use real but the church we are using doesn't allow any sort of fire inside.

Perhaps you need to consider a combination of real and LED, depending on the placement of the candles. Outside with the possibility of wind... LEDs will prevent the embarrassing look half of them blown out.

We created a beautiful candle element to line our deck rails and even an extremely light breeze kept blowing them out. And if you drip wax on those rented linens... be prepared to pay a surcharge for cleaning.

We are using real candles. Check out candles4less.com, I ordered from them the candles and votive holders. Pretty reasonable, quick and great packaging!

We're going to do a mix of both. That way in case the real ones blow out (we're outdoors for ceremony and reception) we'll still have the LED's until someone relights them Smiley smile

Use real candles. Get the kind that burn for 10+ hours.
