Reading during the ceremony

Allaura, on October 31, 2022 at 12:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17
So where did everyone get their readings from? We aren’t religious so no bible verses or anything like that. Any ideas or help would be awesome!

We ended up not doing readings, but we had a few that we were considering! I found them on Pinterest and a Google search. The two we were considering were "Love" by Roy Croft and "The Art Of Marriage" by Wilfred A. Peterson.

We're not religious either, but we're planning on having A Blessing for Marriage by James Dillet Freeman as one of our readings- it really resonated for us!

My grandmother wrote a poem that she then read at our wedding. Our wedding wasn't religious either.

We aren’t religious either, so we are just omitting readings altogether

I was originally going to also omit readings but our ceremony is going to be like 3 minutes if we don’t like spruce it up some lol so we’re looking for 2 readings for people to do and then 1 for one of our parents to do. The problem is most reading are either super cringy/basic or religious lol we like to do things against the grain and non traditional and finding something like that has been tough.

Our JP gave us a list of readings to pick from. We had two readings: The One by C. J Barclay and and excerpt from The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach. Each reading took less than two minutes.

My fiancé's younger brother is doing our reading, and its completely up to him on what he chooses.

We didn't do any readings. Just a short 20-minute-ish ceremony. I got tons of compliments on it... being short and sweet!

We aren’t doing any at all! Our wedding has lots of Celtic touches (handfasting, quaich) and his dad is singing an Irish blessing but we aren’t doing any readings. didn’t feel like they were necessary!

We're having a religious wedding, but I want to incorporate a secular reading. We haven't picked one yet, but we're both big readers so we have ideas from books and poems.

This link has good ideas, and the readings are sorted by category: https://www.brides.com/story/nonreligious-wedding-ceremony-reading-ideas

Our friend officiated our wedding and we had two readings, but they were pieces we each wrote about what we thought brought us here... So it was very personal. As was the rest of the ceremony.

Maybe consider a quote from a meaningful book/movie/song

Would a classic love poem do? My favorite is How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The words would be perfect for a wedding.

We’re not religious either even though our loved ones are. In our circles, the officiant recites readings. We looked online and picked what we loved best, which were literary passages.
