Rates for off-duty police officers

Rebecca, on June 6, 2011 at 4:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Does anyone know what the average rate is for hiring off-duty police officers for receptions? I'm trying to put together a strict budget, and one of our reception venue possibilities requires that we hire two if we want to serve alcohol.

Thanks!

Call your local police department. Some officers will pick up shifts based on the price you are willing to pay.

Also, google around for private security companies in your area. They will be able to give you a firm hourly price.

Around here I think it's $25 an hour, 4 hour minimum, but I could be a bit off.

Every place is different. You really have to check it out with your local departments. I know if the NYPD this is a complete no no. Instead of Off-duty, you may do better with Retired.

A lot of the venues where I live already include a DPS officer to be there the entire night. Maybe the venue can help you out.

The price is included with our venue! Check with yours to see.
